From wikipedia.org:

Robotrek - released under the title of Slapstick (Surappusutikku) in Japan - is a role playing video game released in 1994. It was published by Enix and developed by Quintet and Ancient for the SNES video game console.

As its Japanese name implies, Robotrek was intended as a humorous game. Designed to appeal to a younger audience, Robotrek's main focus is on allowing the player to raise up to three robots which are built from spare parts that may be found, gained through battles, or generated by the player by means of the game's item combination system. Next Generation describes it as a predecessor to the core idea of Pokémon in the sense that the protagonist does not himself fight, but sends out his robots to do so. Like Pokémon, each robot was kept in a ball.

Story
On the planet of Quintenix, where the situation has long been peaceful, a group calling themselves "The Hackers", headed by Blackmore, suddenly starts an uprising against the population by disrupting the peace of the town of Rococo (and elsewhere). The main character (who appears to be nameless) is the son of a famous inventor, Dr. Akihabara, who decides to move to Rococo. The main character soon sets off to find out that The Hackers want Dr. Akihabara for a sinister purpose, as Akihabara refuses an offer to join them. The story unfolds to the point where The Hackers' ultimate goal is the Tetron, a mysterious stone that allows viewers to observe events past and future and travel through time.

The Tetron is later found out to be an invention of the main character's ancestor Rask and one of his friends, Gateau, finds the Tetron's potential as the key to controlling the universe by controlling time. Rask disregards that potential and hides the Tetron in shards throughout Quintenix. Gateau, who - presumedly - formed The Hackers later on, obtains the Tetron and attempts to proceed with his plan for universal domination, starting with Rask's home planet of Choco. It is up to the main character to stop Gateau in his space fortress.

Gameplay
Robotrek has similar gameplay to that of most RPG video games, with the notable exception that the main character is not the combatant; rather, the robots he invents are, making it more similar to Pokémon and Dragon Quest Monsters. The robots are highly customizable, in aspects such as equipment, special attacks, body color and name. The player is allowed to build a maximum of three robots. Unlike many RPGs, the player must invent or create the robots equipment, use "Program Points" to set the robot's attributes (as opposed to these attributes being set by the game), and program special attacks in a macro-like fashion, although certain commands do special effects instead.

Much of the game revolves around creating and combining items for your robots' benefit, and is essential to make higher-level equipment. The player creates and combine items using an invention machine. More items can be created by finding the "Inventor's Friends" series which can only be accessed depending on the character's level. Aiding the combination process are items called Scrap, these allow the player to create basic equipment or make more powerful ones. Weapons can also be strengthened by combining one weapon with the same type (swords for a Sword). A weapon can increase strength by nine times (called levels).

From ign.com:

Before leaving for Choco, search the area approximately five spaces right and seven to nine spaces up from Quintenix. Starting from Quintenix, fly to the right just past the first yellow star. Then, fly upwards until reaching an area with a small blue star to the left and a large yellow star to the right. The planet Kirara is located between those stars. The library on Kirara contains the complete Inventor's Friend collection.

From hook-shot.com:

The first thing that needs to be done is actually finding the hidden planet of Kirara. Assuming that you left off at Quintenix, you can head directly to the north about fourteen "steps" until you have a large blue star on your left and a small red star on the right. If you look at the right side of the screen, you should see a large yellow star and a small yellow star to the left of that. Move your Spaceship exactly on top of the small yellow star and a dialogue box should pop up. I find it easier to start at the green planet, Choco, and head directly to the west until you are right under the first small blue star you come to. From there, just head north and you will come to the large yellow star. Kirara is the small yellow star directly to the west of this star. Either way, once you find the hidden planet, make a landing.

The Spaceship will drop you off on a straighforward path. Just head to the north until you enter the building. Inside, you will find a woman who very strongly resembles Polon standing behind a counter. If you talk to her, she tells you that lost books from all points of time end up in this library. If you talk to her again, she seems to think the two of you have met before...

Anyway, if you haven't guessed yet, this place houses every Inventor's Friend in the game, including some volumes that you cannot find anywhere else during your adventure. Time to get looking.

Head east into the first section of the library. If you check the left side of the lower left bookshelf, you will find INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 1, which will teach you to make Boots 1. The right side of this bookshelf holds INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 2, where you can learn how to make Sword 1. The lower right bookshelf has INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 3, which lets you invent Shot 1, on the left side of it. On the right side, you can read INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 4 and learn to create Bomb 1. INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 5 is on the right side of the upper left bookshelf. It lets you to invent Shield 1. The second upper bookshelf from the left has INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 6 on the left, which you can use to make Hammer 1, and INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 7 on the right, which teaches you to invent Punch 1. Check the left side of the third upper bookshelf from the left to find INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 8 and learn how to make Boots 2. Check the right side of this same bookshelf and you will be able to invent Axe 1 using INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 9. The upper right bookshelf houses INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 10 on its left side, which can be utilized to invent Shield 3. That's all for this section of the library, so head north through the hallway and into the next section.

In this area, the left side of the lower left bookshelf contains INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 11, which you can learn how to make Power Pack from. The right side of this bookshelf has the INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 12. This teaches you to make Sword 2. The lower middle bookshelf has INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 13 on the left side of it. You can invent Punch 2 with it. On the right side, you will find INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 14 which allows you to create Celtis 1. The left side of the lower right bookshelf houses INVENTOR's FRIEND LEVEL 15, which will teach you to make Shield Pack. The right side of the upper left bookshelf stores INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 16. Now you can create the Quick Pack. The second upper bookshelf from the left has the INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 17 on the left side and INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 18 on the right side. These teach you to make Bomb 2 and Turbo Pack, respectively. You will find INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 19 on the left side of the third upper bookshelf from the left. It allows you to invent Weather. The right side of this bookshelf has INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 20 on it, which allows you to make Vanish. Check the left side of the upper right bookshelf to find INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 21 and learn how to make Smoke from it. Now that you've cleared out this section of the library, head through the hallway leading west to reach the final major section of the libary.

Head to the upper left bookshelf in this area and examine the right side of it in order to find INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 22. This allows you to invent Cure. On the left side of the second upper bookshelf from the left, you will find INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 23, which shows you how to invent Clean. You can find INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 24 on the right side of this same bookshelf and learn to invent Repair with it. Look on the left side of the third upper bookshelf from the left to read INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 25 and learn to make Laser 1. The right side of this bookshelf teaches you to make Blade 1 by way of INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 26. Check the left side of the upper right bookshelf to read INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 27 and learn to create Blade 2. Examine the right side of the lower left bookshelf to find INVENTOR's FRIEND LEVEL 28. Use it to invent Bomb 3. Look at the left side of the lower middle bookshelf and use INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 29 to learn to make Shot 3. While all of the Inventor's Friends up to this point could have been found earlier in the adventure, some can become unavailable, so it's nice to have all of them stored in one convenient area. The right side of the lower middle bookshelf finally holds a one you may not have found yet, INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 30. It lets you create the powerful Shield 5. Another new book rests on the left side of the lower right bookshelf. The INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 40 located there allows you to invent Boots 6. Check the right side of this bookshelf to find INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 50 and learn how to create Bomb 4. These are all of the Inventor's Friends that you can find elsewhere during your adventure.

However, if you head south through the corridor in this room, you will find a few more bookshelves. Examine the right side of the left bookshelf and you will find INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 60. With it, you can create a very powerful weapon, Laser 3. Look at the left side of the right bookshelf for INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 70. This book lets you invent Solar Pack, which can be helpful in the upcoming final dungeon. Finally, the right side of the right bookshelf houses INVENTOR'S FRIEND LEVEL 80. This book teaches you to invent the costly but extremely strong Blade 4. These three books are only available in Kirara. You may notice that you don't have enough levels to get the last three to five books at this point. This gives you some incentive to level that high. If you would like to read these books, I would suggest taking a level 9 Axe 3 back to the Tunnel and wailing on the Shell enemies down there for a couple of hours. Anyway, when you are finished in the library, exit through the door you used to enter the building and then summon your Spaceship once again to return to the Outer Space Map.
