Fun At the Library
Me and my friends are trying to annoy our librarian. We tried Talking unecessarily loudly on rosetta stone, applauding for no reason, singing happy birthday to random people, laughing, listening to music, dancing and having fun! None of these things worked! LOL! Comment and tell us what you think might have made him mad!(Nothing too extreme please!)

RIKU: Quit while you can ...
SORA: No. Not without Kairi.
[Riku transforms into his Ansem form]
RIKU: The darkness will destroy you.
SORA: You're wrong, Riku. The darkness may destroy my body, but it can't touch my heart ... My heart will stay with my friends, it'll never die!
RIKU: Really? Well, we'll just see about that!
[Riku shoots a bolt of dark energy at Sora, but Goofy jumps in the way and deflects it with his shield]
GOOFY: Sora ain't gonna go anywhere!
RIKU: You'd betray your king?
GOOFY: Not on your life! But I'm not gonna betray Sora, either, 'cause he's become one of my best buddies after all we've been through together!
[he turns to Donald Duck (who is standing next to Riku)]
GOOFY: See ya later, Donald ... Could ya tell the king I'm really sorry?
DONALD: Hold on, Goofy! We'll tell him together!
[he runs over to Sora]
DONALD: Well, you know ... All for one and one for all.
GOOFY: I guess you're stuck with us, Sora.
SORA: Thanks a lot ... Donald, Goofy.
RIKU: How will you fight without a weapon?
SORA: I know now I don't need the Keyblade. I've got a better weapon ... My heart.
RIKU: Your heart? What good will that weak little thing do for you?
SORA: Although my heart may be weak, it's not alone. It's grown with each new experience, and it's found a home with all the friends I've made. I've become a part of their heart, just as they've become a part of mine. And if they think of me now and then ... if they don't forget me ... then our hearts will be one!
[he takes out a wooden sword]
SORA: I don't need a weapon ... My friends are my power!
[he readies himself for battle, when the Keyblade in Riku's hand disappears]
RIKU: What?!
[Sora's wooden sword suddenly turns into the Keyblade, and they battle ... Riku is eventually defeated, so he runs off, when Beast (from Beauty and the Beast) enters the scene]
BEAST: So, your heart won this battle.
[Sora nods, then "Learned White Trinity." appears on screen]
[Sora and his party make their way to the library, and he checks one of the shelves]
NARRATOR: The books seem to be arranged alphabetically. This is the K shelf. There is a book missing.
[he walks over and picks a red book up off the floor]
NARRATOR: Obtained Khama vol. 8.
[he walks back to the bookshelf]
NARRATOR: This is the K shelf. Put Khama vol. 8 on the shelf.
[he puts the book back, and the shelf moves to reveal a secret passageway, so they climb the stairs and find a book on top of another bookshelf]

[they walk over to another bookshelf (where a green book is shelved amongst a row of orange books), so Sora takes the mismatched book off the shelf]

Sora is the protagonist of Square Enix's best-selling "Kingdom Hearts" video game series. Introduced in the series' first game in 2002, Sora is a cheerful teenager who originates from Destiny Islands and has been best friends with Riku and Kairi since early childhood. When they plan to go on a journey to see other worlds, they are separated by creatures known as Heartless. Fighting them, Sora obtains a weapon called the Keyblade which makes Donald Duck and Goofy recruit him in their journey across various worlds to aid King Mickey while Sora searches for his friends who were sucked in by the darkness. In the meantime, the trio protect the worlds they visit from various villains.



"Kingdom Hearts" FAQ/Walkthrough
Written for PAL version, also recommended for NTSC and Int. versions
For the Playstation 2 gaming console


You will be standing on a platform, jump off it and run behind the rocks to find a chest containing Dalmatians 91, 92, and 93. Then return to the starting platform and make your way up until you reach a moving platform, which will take you to a larger platform. Seacrh this area for a bubble which you should use to get a Dispel-G. Then continue to make your way up the platforms. Once you reach the top, you will meet Riku, and watch the cut-scene that will dramatically change the story.

After the cut-scene ends, Beast will join your party, and you will be automatically equipped with the wooden sword. Donald and Goofy have left you and so you must rely on Beast to defeat the Heartless that appear. You can now turn back and glide to three chests containing a Megalixir, a Blizzaga Ring, and a Dispel-G. When you are ready, head for the castle behind the platform with the White Trinity Mark on the floor. There are three new types of Heartless that make their first appearance here. They are the Wizard, the Wyvern, and the Defender. Not much of a threat, but since you only have a wooden sword, it will be difficult to defeat them. Your best option is to flee.

When you reach the castle gates, head to your right and activate the crystal. Jump onto the elevator that appears. There are two chests containing a Mythril and a Tornado-G. Then apporoach the bubble that is closer to the ground to reach the waterway. Use the nearby Save Point and get Beast to break the wall down, by using the Call command. Enter the new room to find another bubble that you should use to reach another room. Head into the room to find a switch on the wall, release it. This should open a gate. Head for the gate that just opened and release the switch near the gate. Another gate should of opened, and again, you should head for the newly opened area, to find another switch that you must press. Then head for the newly opened area and press the switch on the ground. Then use the bubble to reach another area.

Press the switch in the area and then finally press the last switch. Doing this has opened the main door at the entrance gate. It's time to backtrack to the entrance gate. To get out, use the "switch" steps in reverse. When you have reached the gate, turn right and head for the door. Prepare yourself, as a boss awaits ...

Boss Battle
Riku (Ansem Form)

After the transformation, you just know that Riku is now just pure evil. Luckily, you get your party members back, and also, your keyblade. Riku now wields a new weapon, a "dark keyblade," which is like a negative projection of Sora's. This keyblade is extremely powerful and it can deal a lot of damage to you, so always have Aero casted onto you. He still has the same attacks as he did on Destiny Islands. These include the Drop Kick, Vortex and Jump. The attacking method is still the same, if you land a successful combo on him, he will counter-attack with the dro kick, doing major damage. Vortex is still the same as well as Jumping. He can still jump huge distances, so there is no point of running away as he can catch you in one jump. If you have Dodge Roll equipped, you should use this often to get behind him and unleash a combo or two. Or if you have Ars Arcanum, also you should use this often as it will damage him a lot.

Upon defeating Riku, your party will learn the final Trinity ability; the White Trinity Detect. If you have the time, you should break all of the pots that are in this room, as they contain HP Balls, and Hi-Potions. Although Hi-Potions are not that common to get. Head up the stairs and enter the door to the left. This will take you to the library. Get rady for another one of Hollow Bastion's puzzles! This time, your aim is to find and place books into their corresponding shelf to open up parts of the library, taking you to a door at the end of the path.

Pick up the red book on the floor on the left corner of the room. This is the Khama vol. 8. Place this book in the row of red books to your right. You have probably guessed it by now. You must place books in with the same colour shelf. Only an idiot wouldn't have figured it out. By placing the book into the shelf, you have opened up a passage leading to another area of the library. In this library, there are many pillars with holes that can be examined for items. A good example is the pillar is the pillar to your left. All you have to do is to keep on examining it until you get the chest. In this pillar, there is an Elixir. When heading up the stairs, examine the two pillars containing a Mythril and a Mega-Potion respectively. Save Point lies nearby pick up the Theon vol. 6 on the table, and activate the green trinity mark on the floor a few steps away for a Azal vol. 3. Return to the orange bookshelf, located near the pillar containing a Mega-Potion, and take the Mava vol. 6. Then place the Theon vol. 6 into the place where the Mava vol. 6 was. Activate the switch, unlocking a door. return to the save point and jump onto the first floor bookshelfs. Then head for the treasure chest which contians Dispel-G. Behind the Save Point is a section of bookshelfs that are sealed off in the first floor. Jump into it and take the blue Salegg vol. 6.

Place the Salegg vol. 6 into the blue row of books to open up an exit. Return to the starting point of this area and insert the yellow book into it's corresponding row of books, moving another bookshelf. Run to the other side, and pick up the Nahara vol. 5. Now you must return to the Save Point upstairs and insert the the yellow book into the 3rd bookshelf to the left. Then take the Mava vol. 3. from behind the shelf. Return to the green row of books and insert both green books into their place.

Finally, take the Hafet vol. 4 from the desk and then return to the shelf that you just took the Mava vol. 3 from. Then insert the Hafet vol. 4 into it's purple row of books. The library is now complete. Use the Save Point to save your progress and then head through the opened door where the bookshelf used to be, NOT the double doors!

This new area is the Lift Stop area. Within this area, there are many platforms that contain item. The only problem is that they are floating in mid-air, and they can only be lowered by locking-onto them and casting Gravity or Gravira on it. A good example is the floating platform to the left of the glowing crystal. Now that the explanation is over, do exactly what just said two sentences ago. Doing this will make you one Tornado-G richer. After that is done, use the blue glowing crystal to go to a higher area. Another floating platform. Yep, you know what to do. Doing this will get you an Ultima-G. Now head back to the library, and restore your MP, and then enter the doubledoors. Does this place look familiar? Yeah, it's the second floor of the room you fought Riku in.

Look around and cast Thunder on the stone nearby. Like the first ground floor, this place also has many breakable pots containing many valuable items. Head to your right and smash the two pots that surround the stone head. Continue walking down the path, and light all the candles that you see by casting Fire. To get an Emblem Piece, you must light all eight candles. Return to the Red Trinity Mark and activate to receive another Emblem Piece. Now head for the statue opposite the double doors push the staute to the left to reveal another chest containing another Emblem Piece. Now head down and collect the remaining Emblem Pieces. You should have a total of four pieces. Head to the right and examine the door with the Heartless symbol on it. You must examine it four times. After doing this there will be another cut-scene. Enter the door once the cut-scene has ended, to reach the Lift Stop once again. Examine the red crystal, making it blue and head to the other crystal. Examine it and cast Gravity on the floating platform to receive a rare Orichalcum.

Head back down and turn the blue crystal back to red. Ride the platform again, but this time down. Proceed onwards and take the platform on the right. Examine the red crystal to receive a Mythril. Return to the platform junction and now take the platform on the left. You will be taken back to the Dungeon-like area. On the floor right in front of you is a blue trinity mark. So obviously, you gotta activate to get a few prizes. These include a few HP Balls, a Mega-Potion, a Mega-Ether, and a Cottage. After doing this, return to the Lift Stop.



Hollow Bastion is a world from the "Kingdom Hearts" series of games. Its name litteraly means "empty castle", reflecting that it is at one point devoid of any life in it except the Heartless.

It is not based on a Disney film, though it shows Disney influence as it is similar to Beast's haunted castle from the movie, Beauty & the Beast, and Maleficent's fortress from the Forbidden Mountain from the film, Sleeping Beauty given that characters from both films appear here.

Hollow Bastion is a colossal castle that towers above the rest of its world, Radiant Garden, once being quite beautiful in appearance, but since then had one side modified with machinery that gave it a warped look. It remained as such until repairs began prior to Kingom Hearts II. At one point, it is the only remaining part of the city.

Because of this, the world itself is known as "Hollow Bastion" in Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, and most of Kingdom Hearts II. However, it regains its original name of Radiant Garden by the end of Kingdom Hearts II, when Tron used his powers to show what the world was like before its destruction.

Ansem the Wise is the former ruler of this world. The castle was taken over by Maleficent and she proclaimed herself ruler until her defeat in Kingdom Hearts. Since both of them are no longer in power, the Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee seems to be in charge of the world.

In the first "Kingdom Hearts" game, Sora and the rest of the party enter Hollow Bastion at the Rising Falls, appropriately named as there are waterfalls that run up instead of down. Jumping on mystical floating rocks and ledges takes the party to the first of many magical platforms that are scattered throughout the castle. The platform takes Sora to the Castle Gates, the main entrance of Hollow Bastion which is made up of a set of balconies and lifts running outside the castle. From here, the party can travel down into the underground water system or enter the castle itself.

Going down the nearby platform or leaping off the edge of the balcony takes the party to Base Level, an area full of ledges, switches, and enemies. Successfully climbing to the balcony near the entrance earns extra treasures, while taking a nearby bubble carries them to the Waterway, where a series of gates, switches, and bubbles must be navigated to operate the castle gate controls. Off of the Waterway is a small room, the Dungeon.

Going in the doors at the other end of the Castle Gates area takes the party to the massive two-level Entrance Hall, where a large puzzle must be solved to continue up the castle by allowing access to the second half of the Castle Gates area. Going left takes the party to the Library, also the site of a large puzzle involving organizing misplaced books. Belle, Yuffie, Leon and Aerith can later be found here after the Hollow Bastion Keyhole is locked. Also accessible from the Library is the first of many entrances to the Lift Stop, a series of magic lifts separated by mystical barriers. The ceiling of the Lift Stop is decorated like the stained glass that characterizes the Station of Awakening.

Daddy-Long-Legs (Kidari ajeossi) is a 2005 South Korean romance film. It was one of four Korean movies screened at the 2006 International Fajr Film Festival in Iran. The story is loosely inspired by the novel "Daddy-Long-Legs" by Jean Webster.

Young-mi (Ha Ji-won), is a young woman who has lost her parents and struggling to fend for herself. She receives the assistance of a stranger who pays her university fees and sends her gifts. She affectionately nicknames her benefactor "Daddy-Long-Legs".

After completing her studies and initially struggling for work, Young-mi eventually obtains her dream job as a program writer in a nationally-syndicated radio station. On top of this, it has been arranged for her to stay rent-free in a nice house that the owner vacated due to health reasons. Young-mi believes that her good fortune is the work of her "Daddy-Long-Legs".

One day, Young-mi receives an email from the owner of the house. The email was date-stamped to arrive at the house's computer on that specific day, though it was written and sent a year earlier.

The email details a love story written by the unseen owner of the house. The writer confesses that she has secretly been in love with a guy since her school days. In order to be near him, she worked hard to obtain a place in the same course at the institution he was studying in. Although she didn't have the courage to introduce herself, she was happy to see him every day. The writer explains that when he got a job at a radio station, she followed him there. But then she was diagnosed with a terminal disease which would cause her to lose her memory and then die. The writer's greatest fear is not of dying, but of losing her memory, which is why she wrote the email to be sent to herself in the future.

Young-mi is deeply touched by the story and decides to air its contents via the national radio program to locate the young man with whom the owner of the house was in love. The story is serialized and dramatized on the air, quickly becoming an audience favorite.

Meanwhile, Young-mi meets Kim Jun-ho (Yeon Jung-hoon), who works as a librarian in the radio station. They spend time together and Young-mi begins to fall in love with him. Young-mi then discovers that Jun-ho is the love interest mentioned in the email. Young-mi decides to end their relationship, guilty with the knowledge that someone somewhere out there has been in love with him for years.

Young-mi also investigates her "Daddy-Long-Legs", eventually learning that her current job and accommodations were the decisions of the radio station's director. She confronts him, but it turns out that the director was only acting on behalf of his younger brother, who chose to provide Young-mi with her school fees and asked that she be given her current job and his house to live in. It turns out the director's brother is Jun-ho, who is also the writer of the email. Jun-ho had switched genders when writing the email, and lost all of his earlier memories of Young-mi when they were students together and he loved her from afar; when they met in the radio station's library, it was the first time for both.

Young-mi is devastated by this news. She reconnects with Jun-ho and they spend as much time together before his illness relapses and he dies.



From the adaptation anime written by Jean Webster. This heart warming love story of being loved and finding love. Ha Ji Won played Young Mi an orphaned goal oriented woman whose difficulties didn't give her an excuse to loose hope with the help of her so called Daddy Long Legs which is Kim Jun Ho played by actor Yeon Jung Hoon the librarian. This movie will surely make you want to love and not loose hope. Enjoy!!!

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has established a compound in Virginia that focuses on one very important aspect of international espionage: social network spying.

According to the Associated Press, which was provided some insight into the CIA's operations, the Open Source Center, a team also known as the "vengeful librarians," analyzes up to 5 million tweets a day to gauge public opinion around the world. The group also examines messages shared via Facebook and comments made in Internet chat rooms, in addition to listening in on more traditional forms of information dissemination, such as TV news channels and local radio stations.

But before U.S.-based privacy advocates get too concerned about the CIA's practices, it's worth noting that the entirety of its actions, the center's director, Doug Naquin, told the AP, centers on the examination of social activity in other countries.

The U.S. government is barred by law from spying on tweets, Facebook messages, or e-mails sent by U.S. citizens without a warrant.

According to the AP, the Open Source Center was first established after the 9/11 attacks to combat international terrorism. But now, the group told the AP, its focus goes far beyond a focus on terrorism, and examines public opinion on a host of matters around the world.

For example, the group told the AP, it provided information to "the highest levels at the White House" on the Middle East's reaction to this year's killing of Osama bin Laden. The group told the AP that it found that the majority of Urdu tweets and Chinese tweets were negative, seeming to indicate that the Pakistani people and Chinese were not pleased with the news. After President Obama announced bin Laden's death, reactions on social networks were negative in several countries in the Middle East.

The stakes appear to be high for the vengeful librarians. According to the AP, their analyses of tweets, messages, and other citizen reactions around the world find their way into the President's daily briefings, and thus, play a role in his decision-making.

However, even though the intelligence community has continued to say that it doesn't engage in any spying of U.S. citizen communications, not everyone is so convinced.

In 2009, for example, Greg Nojeim, an attorney for the Center for Democracy and Technology sat down with CNET to discuss the possibility of the U.S. government spying on its citizens' online communications. As far as he was concerned at the time, the U.S. could spy on its citizens, although there was no way to prove that it does, in fact, do so.

"Who wants to live in a world where the government can listen in on every communication without any evidence of crime?" Nojeim said. "The consequences of that are that people won't communicate freely and the country would be very different as a result. Imagine how your conversation with a close personal friend would change if you knew someone else was listening. That's what is at stake. That's what needs to be protected."

Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, which has exposed U.S. diplomatic cables, videos from the wars, and more, is also concerned that some of the most prominent online companies--Facebook and Google, among others--are tools for the government to be used for access to any kind of information they want.

"Facebook in particular is the most appalling spying machine that has ever been invented," Assange said in an interview with Russian news site RT earlier this year. "Here we have the world's most comprehensive database about people, their relationships, their names, their addresses, their locations and the communications with each other, their relatives, all sitting within the United States, all accessible to U.S. intelligence."

Assange went on to say that the companies "have built-in interfaces for U.S. intelligence."

"It's not a matter of serving a subpoena," Assange told RT. "They have an interface that they have developed for U.S. intelligence to use."

It's worth noting, however, that neither those companies Assange mentioned nor the U.S. intelligence community have ever confirmed that they are working in cahoots to spy on people.

The Vision Tour takes AASL's Learning4Life (L4L) initiative "on-the-road" by showcasing exemplary school libraries across the nation. During the tour, Everhart hopes to visit a school library in every state in the U.S. with the goal of bringing to the general public visual models of what good school libraries offer students and communities. The schools Everhart will visit were selected by AASL Affiliate Organizations as examples in their state of school libraries that are dedicated to empowering every student with the skills needed to be a Learner4Life. All of the chosen schools are listed on Everhart's blog. Her first stop on the tour will be to Paul W. Bryant School in Cottondale, Ala.. She will also make a stop in Portland Ore. on November 5-6 to speak at AASL's Fall Forum and give updates on her travels.

Everhart's blog also features a theme song, "Check it Out," performed by the Boys' Choir of Tallahassee and a photo album that will include pictures from her tour. AASL's webpage hosts a press kit for school's to use when announcing Everhart's visit to their school, as well as helpful information about donating to the Vision Tour. Donations must be made by May 31, 2011.
"I'm so excited to begin the Vision Tour – it feels like a rock tour! What a privilege it is to be able to visit outstanding school libraries and to meet the librarians and the members of their learning communities all over the country," says Everhart.

"Support from Friends of AASL will be critical to the success of the Vision Tour," she maintains. "It's a shoestring operation, much of it coming from my own funds and sales of Vision Tour t-shirts, so any contribution will be most welcomed."

The Friends of AASL program ensures excellence in service to the profession and supports future growth and viability. Program funds provide additional financial support for AASL programs and initiatives that enhance the association's mission and goals and also reach above and beyond traditional membership services as guided by AASL's strategic plan and Learning4Life.

The Learning4Life (L4L),, national implementation plan supports states, school systems, and individual schools preparing to implement the "Standards for the 21st-Century Learner and Empowering Learners: Guidelines for School Library Programs." The plan will also increase awareness and understanding of the essential role school librarians play in a student's education.

Case Study No. 1146: "Someone invisible"

The Witch's House Walkthrough PART 2 [Second Floor]
Go up the staircase and up to the second floor. If you want to avoid the ghost leave the staircase for a moment then go back in and head upstairs.

Go to the far left. There is a locked door. Go through the door closest to the locked door. This is the library.

You can read the books for some information on the witch.

The important part of the room is the ghost near the clutter of books who needs something to tie things together.

Leave the room and go to the door to the right of the cat.

Once through the door walk all the way down the corridor. There are a bunch of barrels, and a spider web. On the right side of the room is the spider and some barrels opposite of the spider web. Go to the barrels and click on the one that doesn't have a barrel stacked in front of it. You will receive rope.

Leave the room and go back to the library. Give the rope to the ghost. In return you will be given book of death.

Go back out to the hallway. Opposite the door of the library is another door. Go through that door. Go through the whole room until you're in front of the lone bookcase. Place the book of death in the bookcase.

After you place the book on the book case there will be a skull that will chase you and kill you if it catches up. To avoid this skull run around the book case then go out of the room before going back in.

Go back in the room and get the butterfly model. Leave the room and return to the room with the spider web (where you got the rope from).

Get close to the spider web and pick up the butterfly then immediately replace it with the butterfly model.

Leave the room.

The locked door at the end of the hall is now unlocked. Go through it and go upstairs to the third floor.

VIOLA: [reading] "Once upon a time, there was a rich man pulling along a cart full of treasure. His cart had broken down in the woods, but there came a passing hunter and his dog. The rich man pleaded to the hunter to keep a close eye on his cart, to which the hunter agreed. The rich man went to get a new cart. Meanwhile, the hunter kept watch. Night soon fell, and the hunter grew worried for his elderly mother still at home. So the hunter told the dog to watch the cart and went home to check on his mother. When the man returned, he saw the dog on guard. So he gave the dog a reward for his master, a silver coin, to carry in his mouth. The dog ran all the way home and brought his master the coin. But the hunter flew into a rage. 'I told you to watch the cart, and what did you do? You stole from it!' So the master killed the dog."
[a nearby chair suddenly starts to shake, and a ghostly laugh can be heard]

VIOLA: [reading] "XX/XX - XX Residence Burns Down. XX and his wife XX were found dead in the wreckage. Their bodies were found to have stab wounds, so it is suspected they were murdered and the building then set aflame. Additionally, XX's only daughter Ellen (currently 7) has been missing since the fire. The police."
[the player looks at a mirror on the wall, when a strange female figure appears behind her reflection, and the mirror cracks]
NARRATOR: The mirror is cracked.
[the player exits the library, then tries to open another door]
NARRATOR: It's locked ... There's some small text on the door. "Save the Butterfly."
[the player enters another door, and finds a large room filled with glass display cases]
NARRATOR: Models of insects are lined up inside the glass case.
[the player checks another display case]
NARRATOR: There's a blue-winged butterfly model in the case.
[the player selects "Take"]
NARRATOR: The cover on the case won't budge.

The Witch's House (Majo no Ie) is a freeware puzzle-oriented horror game by Fummy, made with RPG Maker VX. A young girl named Viola has gone to visit her friend, Ellen, who lives in the woods. However, those same woods are said to be haunted by a witch who kidnaps children. When Viola finds her way blocked by magical roses, it seems that her only option is to enter the titular witch's house and find a way to break the spell.


Driven to Suicide: When you first enter the library, there's an invisible person who says that they are sorting books and need something to tie them together. After you give them a rope to solve a puzzle, the person thanks you. If you backtrack to the room after that, you'll find that they tied the rope into a noose and killed themself.


Giant Spider: There's one lurking on the second floor of the house, who is Color Blind, which will bite off Viola's head if you try to leave the room after taking a butterfly from its web.



If you explore all the elements of the witch's house and then go back to the library on the second floor before you encounter the witch, the witch's house 3-7 are now avalible, and this is what they say:

The Witch's House (1) - Keys do not open doors in the witch's house. Something else must serve as a key.

The Witch's House (2) - The form of the house changes based upon the witch's magic.

The Witch's House (3) - The witch's house devours humans. Their souls are offered to a demon.

The Witch's House (4) - The witch's house is purposeful. If any spirits residing in it remain unfed to the demon, that purpose is unfulfilled.

The Witch's House (5) - When the witch's flowers wilt, the witch dies.

The Witch's House (6) - The witch's house is magic, granted to a witch by a demon.

The Witch's House (7) - Once the witch shows herself, the house returns to normal.

Our librarian has long fingernails
And carries a brown leather bag
Drives a bright green sportscar
Loves the wind in their hair
Our librarian wears smart clothes

Untangling Spaghetti is a collection of my favourite poems from my three books for children - poetry, to the rescue; my life my love my lasagne; and love poems and leg-spinners. It's a book I've been wanting to release for years as I perform many of these poems in my school show. At last, they are all in the one book! [he glances up at the big clock above the reference desk]
MR. WILKINSON: Ten minutes after ten?
[he turns to his workers, one male and one female]
PHIL: Huh?
MR. WILKINSON: Call up the paper and tell 'em we've got a story for the front page! Ten minutes after ten, and Lulu ain't come to work yet!
PHIL: Is that news?
MR. WILKINSON: It's somethin' to write home about! I've been waiting eight years for that girl to come late, and now it's happened! Hee hee!
PHIL: Maybe she's got spring fever like you have ...
MR. WILKINSON: Lulu? She couldn't get any kind of fever!
FEMALE LIBRARIAN: If there'd been a wedding this morning, I'd understand it. She ain't missed a wedding in years!
MR. WILKINSON: Yes she has ...
[they all laugh, as Phil looks out the window]
PHIL: Here she comes now.
[cut to an exterior shot, as Lulu is walking down the street towards the library, when she looks down and sees "Mary loves Joe" scribbled in chalk on the sidewalk ... as she pauses, two young boys across the street begin taunting her]
BOYS: Old lady four-eyes! Old lady four-eyes! Old lady four-eyes!
[they run off, as Lulu enters the library and sits at her desk]
MR. WILKINSON: Lulu, do you know what time it is?
[she doesn't look at him, instead staring into space]
LULU: Springtime ...
[he leans in and holds her wrist like he's taking her pulse]
MR. WILKINSON: Clickety click, clickety click, clickety click, clickety--
[she suddenly gets up and begins shouting]
LULU: I wish I owned this library!
LULU: Because I'd get an axe and smash it to a million pieces! Then I'd set fire to the whole town, and play a uekele while it burned!
[she sits back down, as Mister Wilkinson stares at her in shock, then she opens her desk drawer and takes out a piece of paper ("Lulu Smith, 15 - 1197.68, 15 - 1212.68, 15 - 1227.68, 15 - 1242.68")]
[cut to Lulu standing in the bank, as the male teller is counting out money for her]
BANK TELLER: What're you drawing all your money out for? Investment?
LULU: Yes.
BANK TELLER: I hope you're not going into stock market.
BANK TELLER: Then what're you gonna invest your money in?
LULU: A vacation.
BANK TELLER: You mean to tell me you're gonna spend twelve hundred forty two dollars and sixty eight cents for--
LULU: Yes.
BANK TELLER: How long do you expect to be gone?
LULU: About two weeks.
LULU: Someplace where they don't know me.
[he shakes his head]
BANK TELLER: Lulu Smith, that's idiotic.
LULU: It's silly.
BANK TELLER: It's ridiculous!
LULU: It's insane ... but I'm going to do it!
LULU: Just because!
[he continues counting out the money, as Lulu takes off her glasses and focuses on a pamphlet across the room which reads "Havana: The Land of Romance"]



On an ocean voyage, a librarian falls for a married man in the Pre-Code soap opera, Forbidden (1932), starring Barbara Stanwyck and directed by Frank Capra.

In his autobiography, The Name Above the Title, Capra made it clear that he was still developing as a filmmaker during the period in which he made Forbidden. "Platinum Blonde recharged my cockiness," he wrote. "The less-than-miraculous Miracle Woman [also starring Stanwyck] was the only entry in my Columbia "loss" column. I demanded a rematch with "ideas." But this time, by George, on my terms. I would write my own "idea" film. I fancied I could write, anyway. So, with a very large assist from Fannie Hurst's Back Street, I wrote an "original" story, Forbidden...I had yet to learn that drama is not really just actors weeping and suffering all over the place. It isn't drama unless the audiences are emotionally moved. Actors' crocodile tears alone can't touch their hearts. But courage, faith, love, and sacrifices for others will - if believable. In spite of scriptwriter Jo Swerling's valiant efforts to write in some "bones," Forbidden ended up as two hours of soggy, 99.44% pure soap opera. Some critics moistened their reviews with tears, most burned them with acid. Forbidden was saved from the "loss" column by one or two directorial "gems" (sic), and the fine believable performances of Barbara Stanwyck, Adolphe Menjou, and Ralph Bellamy (one of his earliest films)."



"Forbidden" stars Barbara Stanwyck as Lulu Smith, a public librarian who is as bland and nondescript as her lifestyle and the town in which she works. When Lulu first appears on-screen, she is sauntering down a sidewalk to the library on a beautiful spring morning, as if in a daydream; it is the first time she has been late to work in eight years. She is wearing pince-nez, and two small boys across the street from the library yell, "old lady foureyes, old lady foureyes," and when she glances at them, they run off shouting over their shoulders, "old lady foureyes!" To these youngsters (and filmgoers) Lulu is an "only 38" individual.

A brunette (bun at nape), she dresses modestly - long sleeve, midcalf dress, low V neckline, and ruffled wide collar. When Lulu enters the library, she quietly maneuvers around her desk, replaces the flower on her desk with a fresh one, and sits. Her gray-haired, bespectacled library supervisor, Mr. Wilkinson (Thomas Jefferson), approaches, playfully holds her wrist as if measuring her pulse, and mimics her heartbeat, "Clickety-click, clickety-click, clickety-click, clickety ... " Lulu jumps up from her desk, interrupting Wilkinson's attempt at humor, and shouts "I wish I owned this library! I'd get an axe and smash it to a million pieces, then I'd set fire to the whole town, and play a ukulele while it burned!" She sits down as suddenly as she had jumped up, pulls her bank book from her desk, and reveals a balance of $1,242.68. The scene shifts immediately to Lulu in the bank withdrawing all of her money, then to a cruise ship on its way to Havana. Lulu's abroad, a new woman.


When Lulu jettisoned her eight-year-long occupation in brash anticipation that the future would be different, would be brighter, would permit her to participate fully in springtime, she no longer is a librarian, a circumstance that permits a transformation from commonplace to beautiful. As a librarian, Lulu possesses visual characteristics of the stereotype - "only 38" and wears pince-nez, a homely woman. She conforms to the image because she is a librarian. Even the low V-neckline of her dress does not deflect from Lulu's matronly image, although such a neckline permits more exposure than one would reasonably expect from an "only 38" librarian. Lulu's youth and beauty are submerged by her occupation, a restraining factor that is unleashed when she hastily departs the library for the Havana-bound cruise ship.


Lulu had a lifelong tumultuous affair, including a daughter out of wedlock, with a politician, a married district attorney named Bob Grover (Adolph Menjou) whom she meets on the Havana cruise and who could never muster the courage to divorce his wife and marry Lulu. Grover and his wife adopt Lulu's young child, who never learns that Lulu is her mother. Lulu marries a newspaperman, Grover's archenemy, who discovers that Grover is the child's father. Lulu's husband threatens to expose Grover as the father of her child on the evening he is winning the gubernatorial election. Lulu finds a revolver, shoots her husband, and burns the damning evidence. She is imprisoned but pardoned by Governor Grover, who is ill and dying. At film's end, Lulu is at Grover's bedside when he dies; walking away, Lulu tosses into a trash can the governor's hastily written death-bed will granting one-half of his estate to her and acknowledging that she is the mother of his daughter. Although Lulu professes to be happy with Grover, this could not have been the life she envisioned when she left the library with her bankbook.

Martin Kalfatovic is Assistant Director of the Libraries' Digital Services Division responsible for the active digital library program. This program includes the creation of digital editions of library materials, online exhibitions, and new digital publications. Martin serves as the coordinator for the Libraries' participation in the Biodiversity Heritage Library working with an international consortium of natural history and botanical libraries in the digitization of taxonomic literature.

He is a regular speaker at conferences and professional meetings on the topics of library technology, digitization, digital libraries, and online exhibitions. Martin is an active member of the library community having served as the editor of Technology Electronic Reviews, the Library and Information Technology Association Newsletter (LITA), the webmaster for LITA, and as an adjunct faculty member of the School of Library and Information Science at The Catholic University in America teaching courses in library technology and art and museum librarianship.

Kalfatovic holds an M.S.L.S, from the School of Library and Information Science, The Catholic University of America as well as a B.A. from The Catholic University of America.

Beth is an experienced advertising and event planning professional who has managed marketing initiatives across a variety of industries, including: television and broadcast media, trade show management, wholesale jewelry, food and beverage, and insurance. From developing marketing plans and ad campaigns, to new business development, public relations, and implementing online marketing initiatives, Beth has played an integral role in helping companies increase visibility and gain market share.

She has lived in the North Lake Tahoe/Reno area for the past 8 years.

Beth holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation and Park Management, with an emphasis on Commercial and Community/Experience Marketing from Penn State University.



Imagine this: You're planning a wedding and, instead of going to 12 different places all over town looking for the right florist, the perfect photographer, and the best caterer to fit your budget, you can just stop by one place, get familiar with more than 100 vendors, and not have the pressure that comes with a wedding fair.

My Wedding Library, a local business that only works with Northern Nevada and Tahoe vendors, is just such a resource. And, best of all, it's totally free for brides.

Founded in early 2010 by wife and husband Beth and Chris Jones, My Wedding Library is a membership-based company that currently features wedding vendors at its virtual and brick-and-mortar locations. Unlike other dot-com directories, this one is completely local. The virtual storefront at is divided into different categories. For example: florist, invitations, venue, etc. Each member is represented online with their own profile and links to their own sites and contact information. Perhaps most useful is that vendors are ranked within each category according to reviews that other brides have given them. It's a wonderful place for brides to start their research - and it's especially helpful for the destination bride who may only have a few days in town to find the right people to help with her wedding.

At My Wedding Library's physical location in South Reno, vendors have cubbies where they display their services so brides can come browse the shelves - like a library. Head librarian Beth Jones and assistant librarian Brooke Smith are there to help. Special events and workshops hosted at the store regularly range from fashion shows to making centerpieces. Vendors can also use the space for meetings and to host informational sessions.

"Sometimes, when you are planning a wedding, you forget about certain things," says Jones. "People will see a category when they come in and then be inspired."

Changing displays showcase vendor services and offer ideas for browsing couples. There is even a groom room complete with TV, beer and movies.

"Planning your wedding is an overwhelming experience," says Jones. "I am jealous of every bride that gets to use My Wedding Library. My wedding would have been different. Instead of having to drive around to a million places, we could have come here, had a glass of champagne, and had fun looking through albums and displays."

My Wedding Library also launched a free magazine at the end of December that represents all of its vendors. The magazine doubles as a wedding checklist, includes a budget sheet, and offers tips on getting a marriage license.

"The marketing we do on behalf of our vendors gives brides more of an opportunity to find the vendor," says Jones. "A lot of vendors don't have the means to market themselves or target brides directly."

My Wedding Library gives brides an opportunity to find out about local options at their own pace without feeling like someone is trying to sell them something. The bride is then more able to make a qualified appointment instead of wasting time.

"Today's bride is very educated and is going to do her research," says Smith. "We are here to make that easier."

"Brides can come into the library and get ideas," adds Jones. "We want to be a place where they can discover things that they never thought of, and to make the process what it should be. It's fun."
