XI CHEN: "Librarian" in Chinese is "tu shu guan yuan," or "tu shu guan li yuan."
[she writes the Chinese character on the board]
XI CHEN: "Tu shu guan," "library." "Yuan," yuan is the Chinese word which means the people. People doing certain things, we call them "something yuan."
[she writes more characters on the board]
XI CHEN: For example, the teacher ... the word "teacher" in Chinese, it can be "jiao yuan." "Jiao" means "to teach." The people that teach is "jiao yuan." And "tu shu guan yuan," "librarian."

Xi Chen received her Certificate of Teaching Chinese As a Foreign Language in 2005, one of less than 5,000 certificate holders across China. Recently, she was newly appointed program director of Chinese Training As a Foreign Language at her home institution, China Agricultural University (CAU), Beijing, China.
