Case Study No. 1671: "Ain't nobody change the world like a librarian"

Kirby Heyborne Odyssey Awards Librarian song
2:10
Kirby Heyborne, who narrated the audiobook of Scowlers, the 2014 Odyssey Award winner, sang this song after his reading at the Odyssey Awards at the ALA Conference on June 30, 2014. I'm sorry I wasn't up closer to get a better visual, but all the audio is here.

Yeah! All librarians in da house, holla!

Friends, Romans, lend me your ears
No need to be feared, the librarian's here
I got mad skillz, I been workin' all day
Teachin' others, sweatin', puttin' your books away
I support, inform, and treat you right
You can achieve the possibilities you see in your mind
It's my life, fool! Bein' counsel to friends
Nobody change the world like a librarian!

I said hey, ho! Here we go!
Throw your hands in the air when you walk through dat door
Just say it loud and proud, with some help from your friends
Ain't nobody change the world like a librarian, yeah!

I'm an advocate, I help the childrens feel safe
I give them all encouragements so they can relate
Got Doctor Seuss, Mark Twain, Daniel Cross on my mind
Because I change the world one book at a time

I said hey, ho! Here we go!
Throw your hands in the air when you walk through dat door
You sing it loud and proud, with some help from your friends
Ain't nobody change the world like a librarian!

Dewey Decimal catalog, where does it go?
Dewey Decimal catalog, what?
Dewey, Dewey Decimal catalog, where does it go?
Dewey Decimal catalog, oh here it is

I said hey, ho! Here we go!
Throw your hands in the air when you walk through dat door
You sing it loud and proud, with some help from your friends
Ain't nobody change the world, come on help me out! Stand up, here we go!

Hey, ho! Here we go!
Throw your hands in the air when you walk through dat door
You sing it loud and proud, with some help from your friends
Ain't nobody change the world like a librarian!

Shhhhh ...

From ala.org:

This annual award is given to the producer of the best audiobook produced for children and/or young adults, available in English in the United States.

2014 Odyssey Award Audiobook
Scowler, produced by Listening Library, an imprint of the Random House Audio Publishing Group, is the 2014 Odyssey Award winner. The book is written by Daniel Kraus and narrated by Kirby Heyborne.

When Ry's abusive father escapes from prison, Ry summons The Unnamed Three from his childhood, including the hellish Scowler, in order to protect his family. In this gripping and horrific tale, Kirby Heyborne's flawless narration features humming, clicks, and sounds that are not of this world.

"The nine members of the Odyssey committee were taken to other lands, times, and situations as they listened to hundreds of audiobooks and joyously chose the best," said Odyssey Award Committee Chair Ellen Rix Spring.
