The Librarian Dialogues

[scene opens with the four librarians sitting around a meeting table inside the library]
PHIL: Listen, I would like to discuss a certain matter of the more or less "unpatronage" of our patrons!
HAROLD: What're you talking about, Phil?
PHIL: I am talking about the theft of some of our more precious CDs, Harold! I've noticed many films have disappeared, even with the metal security strips!
SPIKE: It's these teenagers who are loitering on my premises ... like it's some sort of video store. This isn't a video store, it's a library! What do we need BVDs for, anyway?
PHIL: The Friends of the Library believe that is what gets the people in here in the first place. Why, books aren't even exciting anymore!
SUSAN: I would like to talk about the beeping of the checkout machine. Some are saying it's way too loud. Some people can't hear ...
SPIKE: Susan, we need to move the trash bins closer to the front entrance.
[cut to a flashback of Spike walking towards the front entrance of the library before stopping at the trash bin]
SPIKE: [in voice over] I came in early a couple of days ago, and I found a half-eaten hot sausage ...
[cut back to Spike holding two fingers apart to simulate the distance]
SPIKE: Ten inches from a receptacle. We need to entice our customers to use the white trash receptacles. It's not that hard.
SUSAN: Why don't we give them ten free CDs?
PHIL: The CDs are free, Susan!
SUSAN: Oh ...
HAROLD: They're called DVDs! And can we please talk about a more important subject?
PHIL: [folds his arms] What's that, Harold?
SUSAN: [shouting] Like the beeping of the checkout machine!
PHIL: [puts something down on the table in front of her] Breath mint, Susan?
SUSAN: [slaps the breath mint off the table]

Filmed entirely in West Bloomfield, Michigan (West Bloomfield Public Library)
