Halo 4 - The Didact's Past [HD]
12:15
Before Halo a strong race grew and grew. And as they grew, they had a powerful leader of their protectors. That leader, was known as the Didact. This is the Didact's past which lead up to the events of Halo 4, which clearly explains the story the Librarian tells to the Master Chief.

From wikia.com:

First-Light-Weaves-Living-Song, more commonly known as The Librarian, was a Forerunner who served as the Lifeshaper (leader of the Lifeworker caste). She sought to document and index all sentient beings of the Milky Way and protect them from being absorbed into the Flood by sending them to the shelter of the Ark. Of all the races she indexed, she deeply respected Humanity, whom she viewed as "special" among all of the sentient life she had seen: she felt that saving them was well-worth dying.

Post Human-Forerunner War
Soon after the Human-Forerunner War, the Librarian learned of the Flood and its potential threat to the galaxy. After successfully pleading the council to preserve as many humans as possible due to their possible knowledge of a cure for the Flood, she focused on studying humanity and aiding the Didact with the creation of his shield worlds. She soon noticed the rapid development of humans and therefore hid their progress from the council, the Master Builder, and, most importantly, the Didact.

Exile
After having lost every political battle for his shield world, the Didact was forced into exile. The Librarian, already planning for the future, hid him and his cryptum on Erde-Tyrene, also known as Earth. Shortly thereafter, she came to believe that she had discovered the galaxy from which the Flood originated. She acquired a ship and crew to explore it. They discovered a world of primitive Forerunners that her race far surpassed in technology. A native bit her: the bite seemed to transfer information—like a universal form of communication. The inhabitant then escorted the Librarian to a biological Domain. Having obtained a moss-like plant that seemed to hold yet more information from the same planet, the Librarian collected more data. Upon returning home, she continued indexing the galaxy's species because the Flood had by then returned.

Greater Ark
The Greater Ark was the location of most of the Librarian's species and index samples, but during the end of the Forerunner-Flood War, she had to move most of her species to the Halo guarding this ark. But things did not go as planned. As the Flood assaults the Greater Ark, the Ur-Didact composes most of the human population from his warship, Mantle's Approach.

Betrayal
The Librarian follows the Ur-Didact to the core of Requiem. She gains entrances to his chambers, wounds him with a Binary Rifle, and imprisons him inside his Cryptum. She leaves with the knowledge that the Domain will undo what the Gravemind had done to him. Before leaving Requiem, The Librarian leaves an imprint of herself.

Final days
After leaving her husband and Requiem, the Librarian returns to Earth to ensure that her lifeworkers had gathered enough humans to ensure the survival of the human race. She transfers her rank of Lifeshaper to one of her most trusted lifeworkers and then orders her lifeworkers to leave her behind and escape to Installation 00.

The Librarian buys the IsoDidact and her lifeworkers some time by sending a fake message to send the Flood to Earth instead of to the Lesser Ark. This tactic leaves her with the knowledge that the Domain was created by the Precursors, and that firing the Halos fire will destroy the Domain and all other Precursor artifacts and leave the Ur-Didact to eternally sit and think in his anger.

The Librarian would perish on Earth during the firing of the Halo Array.

Imprint on Requiem
In 2557, the Librarian appears before John-117 during the First Battle of Requiem. She explains to the Reclaimer her plans to ensure that mankind will inherit the Mantle of Responsibility, mankind's ancient history with the Forerunners and the motivations of the Didact, and his plans for the Composer. She then tells John that when she indexed humanity for re-population, she had placed seeds that would lead to the creation of the Spartans, their MJOLNIR armor, and even John's Ancilla Cortana. She claims that he's "the culmination of a thousand lifetimes of planning." But before she could elaborate, the Didact appeared, demanding that she relinquish her dialogue with the human. With little time, the Librarian reveals that she had also placed genes within the Master Chief's DNA that contained many gifts that included an immunity to the effects of the Composer that had to be unlocked. She quickly enables the immunity once she confirmed that the Didact couldn't be stopped without it.

Six months after the Didact's defeat, the Covenant Remnant, under the leadership of Jul 'Mdama, maintains a presence on Requiem because they believe that the Librarian is hiding on the planet and seek to release her in the hope that she would grant them powers and technologies beyond imagination. Later, Dr. Catherine Elizabeth Halsey manages to activate the device that the Sangheili had been trying to activate. Upon succeeding, she rushed into the shrine and conversed with the Librarian, who to advance humanity shows her the Janus Key, which reveals every Forerunner technology in the galaxy if brought to the Absolute Record. Halsey asks why she was being entrusted with such an important object, and the Librarian answers that while Requiem would soon cease to exist, the Key and what it contains must not be lost. As soon as the Librarian hands Halsey the Key and releases her, Jul grabs one half while Halsey hurls the other to Gabriel Thorne. The Librarian's statement about Requiem's time being at an end concretized as Jul 'Mdama, in possession of one half of the Key, set Requiem to collide with its sun, which ended in the destruction of the shield world and therefore of the Librarian's imprint inside the shrine.

Trivia
* The Librarian's glyph is an emblem you can use in Halo 3's Multiplayer.
* The Librarian was mentioned in Halo 3 in the Terminals. In conversations, she is known as "L."
* On one of the Terminals in Halo 3, you can see the symbol of the Librarian.
* The Librarian referred to the part of Earth she resided on as "Eden" - a reference to the garden of Eden in Abrahamic religions.
* The Proto-Gravemind was originally called "The Librarian."
* According to 343 Guilty Spark, the Librarian was the only one who could "temper" the Didact's rage.
* The ending of Halo: Primordium strongly suggests that the Librarian may be alive, contrary to what her husband said.
* The Librarian is the second Forerunner whose face has been depicted in the Halo series (the first being the Ur-Didact). Other Forerunners have been seen but they have all been wearing Combat Skins.
* The Librarian manipulated the DNA of reseeded humans to guide them towards the development of the skills and technology they would require to uphold the Mantle. Such technologies include augmentation (Spartan II's augmentations), advanced combat skins (MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor), and AI creation (AI). These manipulations would eventually culminate in the creation of one specific human who would be play a central role in Mankind's reclamation of the Mantle.
* The Forerunner records of her transmissions utilize translation software so advanced that it incorporates idioms from the reader's own experience. Such words as "Eden," and "Librarian" are not transliterations of their Forerunner counterparts, but close approximations in the English language that consider the cultural and linguistic idiosyncrasies inherent in the language itself. The Librarian's true name is First-Light-Weaves-Living-Song and Librarian is the English approximation of her name.

From wikia.com:

Reclaimer is the fifth campaign level of Halo 4. It was first announced along with the rest of the achievements for Halo 4.

Reclaimer includes the first appearance of the Mammoth vehicle, the Lich dropship, and The Librarian. It starts off when the player is dropped off by a Pelican. Throughout the level you will be guiding the Mammoth through the battlefield so it can destroy the cannons guarding the gravity well.

[...]

Master Chief holds a hand up, trying to see through the shine of Requiem's artificial sun. A figure descends from above towards him.

John-117: "Who are you?"

Librarian: "I am what remains of the Forerunner, once known as the Librarian. My memories were retained to assist humanity on their path to the Mantle. Though sadly, that plan is now at risk. The Didact is leaving Requiem. Soon. You must not allow it."

John-117: "Leaving?"

Librarian: "He seeks this - the Composer. A device which will allow him to finally contain the greatest enemy ever faced by the Forerunners. You. Mankind spread into the stars with an unexpected, desperate violence. Entire systems fell before the Didact's Warrior-Servants rose to halt the aggression. When the Didact finally exhausted the humans, after a millennia, his sentence was severe. We had no way of knowing that the Forerunners were not your only enemy. Humanity hadn't been expanding. They were running. Weakened from our conflict, we were no match for the parasite which pursued you. The Forerunners made plans for a final, great journey. But the Didact refused to yield our Mantle of Responsibility. He would save all life in the galaxy... at a cost. In the Forerunners' quest for transcendence, the Composer had been intended to bridge the organic and digital realms. It would have made us immortal. But its results soured. The stored personalities fragmented, and our attempts to return them into biological states created only abominations. The Flood only assimilated living tissue. The Composer would provide the Didact his solution... and his revenge."

John-117: (suddenly understanding) "The Prometheans... they're human."

Librarian: "They were only the beginning. He would have encrypted your entire race if we had not removed the Composer from his care and imprisoned him here. Reclaimer, when I indexed mankind for repopulation, I hid seeds from the Didact. Seeds, which would lead to eventualities. Your physical evolution. Your combat skin. Even your ancilla, Cortana. You are the culmination of a thousand lifetimes of planning."

John-117: "Planning for what?"

A low rumbling is heard.

Librarian: "He has found us."

Behind the Librarian, platforms rise from the clouds, Promethean Knights perched atop them.

Didact: "Even in death, her meddling continues."

Librarian: "Reclaimer! The genesong I placed within you contains many gifts, including an immunity to the Composer. But it must be unlocked."

John-117: "How?"

Didact: "Relinquish your contact, essence!"

Librarian: "Your evolutionary journey must be accelerated.

John-117: "Can I defeat the Didact without it?"

Librarian: "No."

John-117: "Then do it."

Librarian: "Prepare."

The Chief's body glows with energy as the Librarian accelerates his evolution. Not soon after he is beset upon by Forerunner forces. Cortana appears on a pedestal to his left.

From halopedia.org:

The Halo 4 terminals are short videos that are unlocked once you find their locations on the various locations of the game. Like the terminals in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, the Halo 4 terminals feature animated and voiced cinematics similar to motion comics. Fictionally, the terminals are presented as visits to the mysterious store of information known as the Domain, once used by the Forerunners.

Finding a terminal awards the player the Contact the Domain achievement, while finding all the terminals in the campaign unlocks the Terminus achievement. They may have connections to Halo: Primordium and Halo: Silentium. The terminals were produced by The Sequence Group, and were written by 343 Industries.

Plot
The Halo 4 Terminals depict events that have occurred to the Forerunners throughout the time of the Human-Forerunner war to the point when the Ur-Didact was imprisoned on Requiem by The Librarian.

Terminal 1 - War
-A ship coasts through space, approaching a fleet of human ships. A small craft scans the ship, which shows signs of Flood infection, and leaves. The main ship of the fleet charges its main gun and fires on the enemy ship, destroying it. Fade to the Ecumene Council chambers. The ship being destroyed is shown in holographic form.

-Librarian: "Our enemies move deeper into our territory with abandon. They must be eradicated."

-Didact: "Shall we take revenge? Abandon the Mantle and all that its philosophy has given us these thousand generations?"

-Librarian: "All our plans have been torn asunder."

-Didact: "More reason not to abandon our beliefs. The Mantle is our guide-post in times such as these. We must not falter in following its teachings."

-The audience in the chamber cheer and applaud.

Didact: "The enemy must be sent home, and taught to stand with the galaxy, rather than rail against us, and take what they desire! The Mantle shelters all."

-The audience cheer and applaud louder.

Faber: "Didact, you make a fair - if uncomfortable - point. You have my support. Librarian, will you likewise follow the Mantle as the Didact suggests?"

-Librarian: "Yes, Master Builder."

-Fade to the Ur-Didact and Librarian stand on a ledge overlooking the Capital.

-Didact: "You're not angry at me?"

-Librarian: "We had this discussion a century ago."

-Didact: "Ah, so you are angry at me."

-Librarian: "In the chambers, yes. But not now. You'll depart for Requiem soon?"

-Didact: "At dawn. My Prometheans are already there."

-Librarian: "Already there? You knew the Master Builder would side with you."

-The two embrace.

-Didact: "Should we step back inside the Council chamber?"

-Librarian: "No. I would rather we spend our night out here. There will be fighting enough in the days ahead."

-terminal end-

Terminal 2 - Lord of Admirals
-A Forerunner fleet orbits a Forerunner planet. A shuttle enters one of the planet's portals. The scene switches to a shot of many tall towers.

-Didact: "My love. Put fear from your heart."

-Librarian: "War is your realm, Didact. Not mine."

-View of a large room with a holographic table in the middle. Lifeworkers float across the room, doing various tasks.

-Librarian: "You march to this war, facing foes that, while always aggressive, were never so aggressive as they are now."

-The Librarian turns to face the Didact.

-Didact: "Your fears are unfounded. The enemy will be turned, and I shall stand by your side once more."

-Librarian: "Promise me that."

-Didact: "I promise you. Nothing will stand between us."

-Outer space, over a Forerunner planet. Several human starships drop out of slipspace and approach the planet. Lord of Admirals Forthencho stands on the bridge, looking expectant.

-Bridge Officer 1: "Lord of Admirals. We are in position over the Forerunner planet."

-Forthencho: "Show me."

-A holographic image of the planet appears in front of him. He manipulates the image with his hands.

-Bridge Officer 2: "Population numbering over two billion. Forerunner ships on alert and inbound."

-Forthencho: "Is it possible? Have we gotten ahead of it?"

-The image of the planet turns red in several places.

-Bridge Officer 2: "Flood infestation detected, My Lord."

-Forthencho: "Damn it!"

Bridge Officer 2: "My Lord? The infestation is in a remote locale. Perhaps if we warn the Forerunners...?"

-Forthencho: "If we warn them, we give the Flood time to spread. You know we have no choice. Cleanse the planet."

-Flood biomass spreads across a Forerunner structure. The camera pans to the sky, and the scene rapidly flashes to white as the orbital bombardment begins.

-terminal end-

Terminal 3 - Charum Hakkor
-Shot of a Halo installation. On the surface, a village of devolved humans carries on with their lives, as the Didact narrates.

-Didact: "The human's actions threatened the galaxy, yet we have treated them as the Mantle requires. Their punishment was just."

-As human children play games, the camera pans to where the Didact and the Librarian watch the village.

-Librarian: "Justice is reducing their genetics in such short generations from a space-faring race to... this?"

-Didact: "They are closer now to the animals they behaved as."

-Librarian: "If not for their encounter with the Flood, their gene-plan could have surpassed our own. They could have someday held the Mantle of Responsibility."

-A pair of hunters return to the village, carrying their catch. They present it to a woman. The woman smiles back at the pair.

-Didact: "The humans were not meant to protect others. The Mantle of Responsibility for all things is ours, and ours alone."

-Librarian: "Yes, the Mantle is ours, and we hold it so tight, even in death we shall hold it still."

-Space, on a collection of infected ships. Forerunner warrior-servants stand before a door, weapons trained on it. Bangs and growls can be heard beyond the door. The door explodes inwards, and the Forerunners are consumed in a bright flash. They are then seen being comsumed by the Flood.

-terminal end-

Terminal 4 - Flood
-Forthencho, now aged after decades of war with the Forerunners, lies in a bed.

-Didact: "Lord of Admirals. So very many years have we battled."

-Shot of a door. The door explodes inward, and Forerunner Warrior-Servants storm the room beyond. They proceed to destroy the defending human forces, as the Didact narrates.

-Didact: "My finest opponent, the Mantle accepts all who live fiercely, who defend their young, who build and struggle and grow, and even those who dominate - as humans have dominated; cruelly, without wisdom."

-Shot of a large Forerunner fleet in orbit around Charum Hakkor. The camera pans right, revealing the wreckage of human ships and stations. The Didact strides down a passage. Warrior-Servants float to the sides, and human bodies litter the floor. Didact enters the bridge, where the final human resistance shelters behind energy barriers, rifles pointed at the door. Front and center stands Forthencho and one other soldier.

-Didact: "But for all of us, there is a time like this..."

-Didact's troops train their weapons on the humans. Forthencho places a hand on the gun of the soldier next to him, and forces the barrel downward. The camera pans down across the vast cityscape of Charum Hakkor, and then to a bunker below ground, where row upon row of human wounded and dead are laid out on beds. Forerunner machines float between rows.

-Didact: "...And for you, that time is now. Know this, relentless enemy, killer of our children. Lord of Admirals. Soon we will face the enemy you have faced, and we are afraid."

-Didact enters a research lab. The Librarian is there, looking at a stored Flood Infection Form.

-Librarian: My Lifeworkers are investigating, but I believe the humans were never attacking us."

-Didact: "Tell that to the millions of dead."

-Librarian: "The humans were acting as caretakers, pruning away planets so that this infection would not spread."

-Didact: "They took the Mantle of Responsibility upon themselves, and in so doing, they brought this sickness to our shores."

-The Didact leaves the room.

-Librarian: "Husband..."

-terminal end-

Terminal 5 - Knights
-In a chamber with a holographic map of the Milky Way galaxy, red centers representing systems overtaken by the Flood.

-Faber (voiceover): "The Flood cover more of our galaxy with each passing day. They feast on the essence of life itself. The only way to stop their advance is to remove that life from which they feast."

-A simulation of firing the Halos is run and the red systems fade out.

-Librarian: "My Lifeworkers have made plans for the reseeding of humanity, and of all life after the Halos are fired."

-Faber (voiceover): "So you agree that Halos are our only solution?"

-Librarian: "I do."

-Faber: "And your husband?"

-Librarian: "My husband has a different opinion on what steps to take against the Flood."

-Shot of Requiem. In a Forerunner structure, Didact having performed manipulations on himself, falls to his knees, in anticipation. Smoke surrounds his body.

-Didact: "Did it work? Run the simulation."

-A holograph of Didact appears. A simulation of Flood infection is run and the form does not pass, turning red.

-Didact: "The procedure is a failure, and I am still susceptible to Flood infection."

-Promethean Warrior: "That leaves only the Composer."

-Didact: "It will not work on my new form."

-Promethean Warrior: "Then you will lead us, as always."

-Didact: "You would submit to such sacrifice?"

-Promethean Warrior: "Didact, if the Composer is our final hope to defeat the Flood, no Promethean would resist."

-On the surface of Requiem.

-Didact: "I have led you, my Prometheans, for thousands of years, and I shall continue to lead you."

-The Prometheans, now digitized and changed into mechanized Knights, appear and surround him.

-Didact: "Rise! Rise and protect the Forerunners! Rise and protect the galaxy!"

-Camera pans back to reveal legions of Knights on Requiem.

-terminal end-

Terminal 6 - Justice
-Infected ships hover above a planet as the Mantle's Approach drops out of slipspace. A door on the bottom of the Mantle's Approach opens and multiple Knights fly out to attack the infected ships. A Knight lands on one of the ships and cuts an entrance into the ship, allowing it to go inside. Soon thereafter, the ship, along with others explode. The Didact watches from his flagship.

-Didact: "The Flood is still too strong. Perhaps if I had greater numbers..."

-He looks at a holographic representation of a Halo installation. On its surface, the devolved humans go about their daily activities.

-Didact: "Humans, your kind brought the Flood to our shores."

-The Mantle's Approach hovers over the human village.

-Didact: "Now you will aid in ending its threat."

-The Composer activates, destroys and digitizes everyone in the village. Cut to black and then fade in to show the ashes of the human remains touching the Librarian's hand.

-Librarian: "They were to be safe here. I ensured they would rise once more; better than before."

-Two Lifeworkers survey the area where the humans were digitized. The Librarian turns to face the holographic representation of the Didact.

-Didact: "Your pets have a nobler purpose ahead of them."

-Librarian (angrily): "You do not face me in person after your deceit!"

-Didact: "I have an army to build from the raw materials harvested this day. The citizens of this Halo are my first conscripts and with them in my thrall, the Flood will meet its defeat."

-On the surface of Requiem, the Didact is talking to the holographic representation of the Librarian while he is surrounded by Knights.

-Didact: "Humanity's loss of its biological form will serve as final payment for their crimes. It is a kindness they do not deserve."

-Cut to black and then fade in back to the Librarian.

-Lifeworker: "What will be done?"

-Librarian: "Move the other humans to safety. Ensure the security of their index samples; they must finish what we have failed to do."

-The Librarian proceeds to walk away.

-Lifeworker: "Librarian, where are you going?"

-Librarian: "To stop my husband's madness."

-terminal end-

Terminal 7 - Cryptum
-The Mantle's Approach flies through a nebula. On the bridge, the Didact, lacking the upper sections of his armor, is steering the ship as the Librarian appears behind him, wielding a Binary Rifle. The Didact turns around to face her.

-Librarian (voiceover): "My dear husband... I know your crimes; I have found forgiveness. I know your reasons; I understand them. I know you, perhaps better than you could ever hope to know yourself. I ask you... forgive my transgressions."

-The Librarian fires a shot at the Didact's chest and he falls on a knee. He looks at the Librarian, who hesitates for a moment, then fires another shot. The Didact falls on the deck, motionless.

-Librarian (voiceover): "Like yourself, all I have done, I have done for the greater good."

-Cut to one of Requiem's access portals, then a series of spires inside the shield world.

-Librarian (voiceover): "Our time as the galaxy's caretakers is passed. The Flood have overrun us. In the days to come, the Halo rings will fire, eradicating the Flood - and all other life, for a time."

-The Librarian observes as the spires retract into the bowels of Requiem, then floats away along a hallway.

-Librarian (voiceover): "I have worked hard to index all species in known space. When the time comes, these indexes will open, and once more, the galaxy will breathe and grow... Blood will pump, life will claw its way out of the oceans and through the mud. Babies will be born, grow old under the warmth of a thousand suns..."

-The Librarian enters a room where the still-unconscious Didact lies. Caught in an anti-gravity field, his body begins to rise from the floor.

-Librarian (voiceover): "Civilizations will rise in our stead, and our job as caretakers will at last bear fruit. Until then, I leave you here, my love. The only living thing in this galaxy, sealed safely away."

-The Librarian observes as a series of pillars descend around the platform housing the Didact's Cryptum.

-Librarian (voiceover): "Spend these ages ahead of you in meditation on your choices. When you wake, you will find the humans."

-The Librarian activates a holographic panel, then turns around as numerous Promethean Knights teleport behind her.

-Librarian (voiceover): "I have ensured that they will grow strong and vibrant... They will be our rightful heirs."

-The Librarian calmly puts her hands around the head of one of the Knights, and its orange lighting turns blue.

-Librarian (voiceover): "Their gene plan dictates that the galaxy will be theirs to care for by then. I beg of you..."

-A small platform transports the unconscious Didact into his Cryptum.

-Librarian (voiceover): "Find the strength to help them learn from our mistakes. And my husband? Let them teach you as well. Please."

-The Librarian floats away amidst the rows of now blue-lit Promethean Knights. Cut to a view outside Requiem as the shield world's access portals seal off.

-terminal end-

From geeksofdoom.com:

With "The Dark Knight Rises," Nolan brings Batman back from his self-imposed exile. Eight years after the Joker's sinister deeds, Bruce Wayne has become an eccentric recluse, traumatized by his own inability to save Dent and the love of his life, Rachel Dawes. Batman and Gordon's lie for the greater good paid off, though. Organized crime has been crushed under the weight of the Commissioner's anti-crime Dent Act and Gotham City is finally prospering.

As rookie cop John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) points out, "Pretty soon we'll be chasing down overdue library books." Gotham's time of peace and prosperity may be coming to a close, however, with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with an unknown agenda. Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) is one of the 99 percent, a woman driven to desperate measures who will butt heads with the city's 1 percent, namely Bruce Wayne.

From imdb.com:

John Blake: When you and Dent cleaned up the streets, you cleaned them good. Pretty soon, we'll be chasing down overdue library books... and yet, here you are, like we're still at war.
Jim Gordon: What's your name, son?
John Blake: Blake, sir.
Jim Gordon: You got something you wanna ask me, Officer Blake?
John Blake: It's about that night, this night eight years ago. The night Dent died. The last confirmed sighting of the Batman. He murders those people, takes down two SWAT teams, breaks Dent's neck, and then just ... vanishes.
Jim Gordon: I'm not hearing a question, son.
John Blake: Don't you wanna know who he was?
Jim Gordon: I know exactly who he was ... He was the Batman.

The LIBRARIAN
Early Monday Moaning
An Erotic Short
Junnita Jackson

He always kept his books for a full four days after the deadline. He always returned them the Friday after, usually right before closing when I am the only one here. I was expecting him any moment now.

"The Library is closing in fifteen minutes. Please make your final selections and bring them to the desk for checkout. Computers will begin shutting down in ten minutes, so be sure to save anything you maybe working on in the meantime. Thank You." I made my usual announcement over the loud speaker. A line began to form at the desk. People with books in hand lined up one behind the other ready to take their newest adventure home with them. I smiled at the people as the line grew longer, for as long as I could remember I had a love affair with books.

I glanced up at the clock then the door. Any minute now I thought I as rubber stamped the new due date on the inside back cover of every book that crossed my desk. This time would be different. This time I would say more than "four books...four days late...fifteen cents per day per book...that will be..."

The door chime interrupted my thoughts. There he was in all his chocolate splendor. He stood a good 5'11 and wore a dark blue single breasted suit. He commanded the attention of everyone in the room.

"The library will be closing in eight minutes. Please make your final selections and bring them to the desk for checkout. Computers will begin their automatic shutdown in less than 3 minutes. Please begin to save anything you maybe working on. Thank you." The library still had a few patrons but as I looked around they were all gathering their belongings and was either headed toward the exit or got in line behind the few others still waiting to be checked out.

I tried my best to not be noticed checking him out. I wonder what he did for a living. He looked like he hadn't had a shave in a day or two, but even that 5 o'clock shadow didn't take away from the presence he commanded. i swallowed as I watched him walk to the far side of the library to pick a new selection of books. Could he purposely be trying to be the last one in here with me? The thought caused me to exhale softly while lost in thought.

Case Study No. 1797: Alma

VAULT OF DARKNESS
2:08
VAULT OF DARKNESS is a horror anthology film comprised of four story segments. Each of the four segments represent a different sub-genre of horror and were created by four separate writer/directors.
ITS HOUR COME ROUND-A suspense story, very much in the vein of THE TWILIGHT ZONE. Young librarian Alma (Christina Cupo) returns home from work one night and is attacked by a stranger (Greg Frucci) who seemingly knows all the details of her life. The stranger forces her to accept a proposition that may endanger her husband (Andre Gower, THE MONSTER SQUAD) and several others. After the stranger leaves, Alma spends the rest of the night and the following day descending into confusion and paranoia until she's forced to confront the source of her fear.
GALATEA-A modern, E.C. Comics take on the Greek myth of "Pygmalion and Galatea". Arrogant sculptor Malion (Paul Shaw, APRIL FOOL'S DAY) chooses to cut his last stone project into the shape of his ideal female. After becoming dissatisfied with the knowledge that she will never be real, a devious gentleman (Jay Jones) appears and offers to grant him this impossible wish. Malion eagerly accepts, ignoring what price the deal may carry. Malion's sculpture, Galatea (Jessica Ferguson), does indeed come to life and all of Malion's desires are fulfilled. Shortly thereafter, things go horribly awry when the gentleman comes back to collect his due.
DAY OF THE LIVING-In the near future, a virus creates a zombie apocalypse that wipes out most of humanity. A group of well-armed survivors fight off waves of zombie attacks from their castle headquarters. Their primary goal is to escape from the castle to the safety of a survivor colony near Atlanta. During an attack, one of the survivors (Darren Dalton, RED DAWN) becomes accidentally infected by the deadly virus, which leaves him with only 18 minutes before he himself turns into one of the undead. After revealing the infection to the others in the group, he decides to arm up and make one last stand against the zombies; allowing his companions the chance to escape. Also starring David H. Stevens (PUNCH DRUNK LOVE), Burgess Jenkins (REMEMBER THE TITANS), and Crystal Largen (CHILDREN OF THE HUNT).
INDOCTRINATION-A twisted, masked reverend (Matthew B. Moore) kidnaps a young man (Nick Staryeu) at gunpoint while preaching his own warped version of salvation. He forces the young man and another hostage (Teddy Jacobs) to endure his hallucinatory sermons in an isolated cabin.

Here's a couple of shots from the short film I did called Its Hour Come Round, part of the Vault of Darkness anthology. Our story details a woman being trailed by a stalker who may or may not be real.

---

From racksandrazors.com:

Though she has always been a fan of the genre, Illinois born and raised Christina Cupo is a more an actress who has appeared in horror rather than a horror actress per se. To date she has appeared in two noteworthy horror shorts - 'Sunshine Monday' by Laura Green as well as Adam Hulin's 'Its Hour Come Round'. The latter is also included in the longer theatrically released film 'Vault of Darkness'. Ms Cupo's other credits include 'The Last Goodbye' with Faye Dunaway and David Carradine, the science-fiction film short 'Corpulent Power' , 'Much Ado About Middle School' with Bill Cobbs and Lee Meriwether, 'Jeopardy' , 'Chicks 101' , and 'The Chocolate Fetish'. For updates and the latest info about the actress check out www.christinacupo.com

Recently I had a chance to catch up with the upbeat actress in this exclusive racksandrazors.com interview.

* Christina, did you make any New Year's resolutions for 2010?

No. Is it too late? What I have instead is a visual image board with my goals displayed. Yes, I read The Secret (it was a gift!). One of those images is a check written for an excessive amount of money (that goal hasn't manifested itself yet).

* So tell me how you came to be cast as a librarian named Alma in the horror short with Adam Hulin called 'Its Hour Come Round'.

No magic, mystery or nepotism here. I was selected to audition by Adam, the director, and I did a cold read and interview with Adam and one of the producers. I think it was my dimples that sold them. "Its Hour Come Round" works alone as a short horror film (already making the festival rounds with aplomb). A version of "Hour" will also be included in the theatrical release feature "Vault of Darkness."

* Can you give me a teaser that will make it irresistible to the www.racksandrazors.com readers?

If you're a fan of the "Twilight Zone" and "Amazing Stories," and you dig the styles of Hitchcock and Chabrol, then "Its Hour Come Round" is mandatory viewing. For the rest of you, it has hot girls, blood and a twist that will make M. Night Shyamalan beat his head against the wall.

Poussey Washington
Played by Samira Wiley
Season 1–present

A prison inmate, she has been in prison for two years at the start of the series and has four years left. Her mother died while she was in prison. Poussey is a good-natured jokester and is often seen with her best friend "Taystee" (whom she helps out in the library). During the season finale, she is revealed to have a great singing voice, and performs an improvised rendition of Amazing Grace. Flashbacks during the second season revealed that her father, who was in the United States Army, moved her family to Germany where he was stationed. In Germany she had a romantic and physical relationship with the base commander's daughter. When the relationship was revealed, the base commander reassigned her father to a post in the United States. It is also implied that she is in love with Taystee, who does not return her feelings. Vee antagonizes Poussey from the start, whether from jealousy that Taystee found someone important to her inside prison, or from implied homophobia, it isn't clear. She separates Poussey and Taystee, causing a rift in their relationship. She is the only African-American inmate not to fall for Vee's charms, and begins a long campaign to fight her throughout the season. Eventually, Poussey causes irreparable damage to Vee's tobacco business by smashing up several tins of tobacco and pouring bleach on them. Realising that no amount of intimidation will stop her, Vee decides to mollify Poussey by ejecting Taystee from the gang, and the two later make up after a physical fight in the library.

From wikia.com:

Poussey Washington is an inmate at Litchfield Penitentiary. She is portrayed by Samira Wiley.

First seen: "Tit Punch"
Season(s): S1 - S2
Family: Unknown
Status: Alive
Offense: Selling Marijuana
Occupation: Library (Litchfield)
Also known as: MacKenzie (by Taystee)

Background
Poussey grew up in a military family and moved around a lot. Her first name comes from a place in France where her father once served. While living in Germany, she fell in love with a girl there, but after the girl's father caught them having sex, he made it so that the Washingtons had to return to the States. Initially, Poussey tried to get rid of her feelings for the girl, but eventually goes to confront the girl's father and even brings a gun. Just as she's about to pull it out, her father catches her and they leave.

Poussey's locked up for selling marijuana (Little Moustachioed Shit). She has a 6 year sentence, and has already served two of them as of Season One. During her second year, her mom passed away.

She makes toilet hooch for her friends, which Vee hopes to sell for profit, but the idea is rejected by Poussey. Vee then uses Poussey's unreciprocated romantic feelings for Taystee to isolate her from the tribe (A Whole Other Hole). She gave a bottle of the hooch to friends to help them mourn the death of Tricia Miller in Season One.

Personality
Poussey's zodiac sign is Aries.

Poussey is a funny, outspoken and caring woman. She likes to joke around with her fellow inmates and tends to avoid confrontation.

Relationships
She is best friends with Tasha "Taystee" Jefferson and they enjoy joking around together to make the atmosphere lighter in the prison. She later develops unrequited romantic feelings for her. While goofing off, Taystee kisses her, but is unable to accept that she may have more than platonic feelings for Poussey. For a period later on, Poussey joins Vee's group to secretly sell cigarettes to the prison inmates for profit. However, she protests upon discovering Taystee is selling heroin, on Vee's directive, to the inmates. She does her best to interfere, even going as far as physically attacking Vee, which only causes herself to be beaten up by Crazy Eyes as retaliation. Pissed, Poussey deliberately wrecks Vee's entire secret stash of tobacco. This incident forces Vee to defect Taystee from her group as she knows Poussey's main reason for acting out is because of Taystee. In turn, Taystee, out of anger at Poussey's actions, which cost her Vee's protection, confronts the latter. When Poussey attempts to walk away from the argument, Taystee pushes her to the ground and nearly attacks her. However, when she sees Poussey cowering in fear, Taystee breaks down in tears and apologizes. The two hug and make up. From then on, they renew their friendship.

[scene opens in Hakujo Academy, as Yuto watches several classmates fawn over Haruka]
NOBUNAGA: [from off camera] Yuto!
[he looks up to see his friend Nobunaga staring him right in the face, and almost falls out of his chair]
YUTO: Ah! Nobunaga!
NOBUNAGA: What are you looking at?
YUTO: It-It's nothing.
NOBUNAGA: Really?
[he smiles]
NOBUNAGA: Ah, besides that ... Did you watch it? Yesterday's "Clumsy Aki-chan?"
YUTO: Oh, yeah ... I watched it. Because of that, I'm sleep-deprived.
NOBUNAGA: It was awesome, wasn't it?! Especially the heroine, Aki-chan! Just can't get enough of her, can you?
[cut to a wide angle shot of Nobunaga talking excitedly, as two female students watch]
NOBUNAGA: The voice actress is Matsuki Miu-san! And for character designs, it's Heru Boomeran-san!
GIRL 1: Asakura-kun sure loves his Akiba-kei ...
GIRL 2: If he kept his mouth shut, he would actually be attractive. But that hobby is just ...
[cut to Nobunaga placing several figurines of Aki-chan on Yuto's desk]
NOBUNAGA: And then, and then, this is the secret!
[Yuto sighs]
NOBUNAGA: What the hell? Even when someone is speaking positively, you give off bad vibes.
YUTO: Coming to someone else's classroom, and continually speaking one-sidedly about your hobbies to someone makes people feel a lot worse.
NOBUNAGA: Eh, is that so? Yuto, you like these kinds of discussions, don't you?
YUTO: I always tell you, I don't like or dislike ...
NOBUNAGA: That's too bad, because I think you might have a hidden genius inside you.
YUTO: What kind of genius would that be?
NOBUNAGA: Ah, that's right! Yuto, I'll show you something really good ...
[he reaches behind his back and pulls out a copy of the manga "Innocent Smile"]
NOBUNAGA: Tada! "Innocent Smile!"
[cut to a closeup of someone's earlobe (twitching slightly at the sound of the title), then back to Nobunaga]
YUTO: "Innocent Smile?"
NOBUNAGA: Yeah, this is Clumsy Aki-chan's serialized anime magazine. I wanted to check the back number, and I saw that this finally arrived at the library.
YUTO: Th-They put this in the school library?!
NOBUNAGA: Yes, since it's pretty rare, and if you bought all of them it would cost quite a bit of money.
YUTO: But even so, would you really put this in the school library ... an anime magazine?
NOBUNAGA: It's pretty famous for these types of topics. In this edition, there's a premium first issue ...
[a loud banging can be heard off camera, as they turn to see it was Haruka pushing her chair back to stand up suddenly (which causes her to get an embarrassed look on her face when she notices everyone in the class staring at her)]
NOBUNAGA: Huh? Wh-What happened?
YUTO: I ... I don't know.
[she quickly bows to all the students gathered around her]
HARUKA: I-I'm sorry! I startled you. Don't worry, it's nothing!
[she sits back down, as the other students go back to their business (except for Yuto who continues staring at her)]
HARUKA: [from off camera] Sorry for the inconvenience!
[cut to Yuto at his locker, as a female voice starts talking over the intercom]
VOICE ON INTERCOM: Second year, class two. Asakura Nobunaga-kun. "Innocent Smile" Volume Six's checkout period has expired. It is urgent that you come to the library.
YUTO: [to himself] What is he doing, that Nobunaga?
[he closes his locker, then Nobunaga appears around the corner]
NOBUNAGA: Hey, Yuto!
YUTO: You were called over the announcement, to return the book you're borrowing.
NOBUNAGA: Yeah, because of that I have a favor to ask of you, Yuto!
[he takes the manga out of his backpack]
NOBUNAGA: Can you return this, for my sake?
YUTO: Huh? Why me?
NOBUNAGA: I have to go and make a one-face outing plan ...
[he thrusts the manga into Yuto's chest and runs off]
NOBUNAGA: I'm leaving it to you!
YUTO: Ah, hey! Nobunaga!
[he turns and yells after his friend, but he's already gone]
YUTO: What is ... "one-face?"
[cut to inside the school library, where the elderly male librarian sits at the front desk next to a large sign ("This Week's Late People! Second Year, Class 2. Asakura Nobunaga. Innocent Smile #12")]
YUTO: Here you go ...
LIBRARIAN: Yes, indeed. The return policy, from now on ...
[he suddenly gets a wild look in his eyes and starts screaming]
LIBRARIAN: Honor it!
[Yuto jumps back and starts bowing apologetically]
YUTO: Ah! Ye-Yes, sorry about that!
[he turns and leaves, as the librarian walks away to file the book back where it belongs]
YUTO: [to himself] Why do I have to get yelled at?
[a female student (covering her face with her book bag) walks past him, so he stops and turns]
YUTO: [to himself] Who is that?
[she turns to walk down the aisle, but bumps her bag into the bookcase (briefly revealing her face before rushing off)]
YUTO: Nogizaka-san?
[cut to Haruka running her finger over the issues of "Innocent Smile" on the shelf, as she stops at Number Sixty Three and smiles to herself]
[cut to Haruka at the front desk, still hiding her face as she nervously hands the manga to the librarian (who once again appears calm)]
HARUKA: Uh ... Ummm, this one please.
LIBRARIAN: Yes, indeed. And as for the return policy ...
[he once again gets a crazy look on his face and starts yelling]
LIBRARIAN: Don't forget!
[she jumps back]
HARUKA: Oh! Okay!
[she tries to quickly run out of the library, but runs right into Yuto ... as the two stare at each other before he finally holds up a hand and wave to her]
YUTO: Hey.
HARUKA: W-W-Why are you here?!
YUTO: Huh?
HARUKA: How long have you been here?
YUTO: Um, from just a little while ago--
HARUKA: Did you see it, what I checked out?
YUTO: N-No ... Not to that extent.
[she suddenly calms down (feeling confident that her secret is still safe)]
HARUKA: Is that so ... Ah, it's really nothing that important. Please don't mind me, then.
[she smiles and slowly starts to inch her way around Yuto to the door]
HARUKA: Umm, your name was Ayase-san, right?
[she keeps smiling and walks backwards towards the exit]
HARUKA: Well then, I'll be going now ...
YUTO: Watch out!
[he holds up his hand, then cut to a large crash as the manga and Haruka's bag go flying in the air while one of the bookcases falls to the floor]
HARUKA: Uhh ...
YUTO: Are you alright?
[he runs up to Haruka lying on the floor, as she slowly sits up]
HARUKA: Whu ... ?
[she suddenly looks at her hands, then looks around the room nervously]
HARUKA: Did you see it?!
[he quickly covers his eyes and turns away]
YUTO: I did ... No! I didn't look!
[she looks down (noticing that her skirt is open), then quickly covers up]
[cut to Yuto uncovering his eyes, as he notices the manga under her bag and bends down to pick it up]
HARUKA: Don't!
[she runs over to grab it herself, but slips on a piece of paper on the floor and crashes into Yuto ... causing both of them to fall backwards into another bookcase (which takes down several more dominoes-style)]
YUTO: Ouch, ouch, ouch ...
[cut to Yuto sitting on the floor (as Haruka lies face-down in his lap), when he picks up the manga and stares at the cover]
YUTO: This is ...
[cut to a close up of the cover, as Yuto moves the manga aside to reveal Haruka staring up at him (reaching for the manga with tears in her eyes)]
HARUKA: You saw ... I've been seen! It's over ... It's all over ...
[she starts to cry, then gets up and runs out of the library (right past a group of students who have gathered by the door due to the commotion)]
[cut back to Yuto, on his knees holding the manga in one hand while reaching out for Haruka with his other hand]
YUTO: Nogizaka-san ...

Episode 1: "Mo, Dame desu..." (English: "It's All Over...")
Original air date: July 10, 2008
Watching an anime Clumsy Girl Aki-chan, Yuto Ayase is a second-year student at Private High School Hakujo Academy. Later, he goes to return a magazine at the library that his bishonen friend Nobunaga Asakura requested. There, he accidentally runs into the most popular girl in school, Haruka Nogizaka, and discovers her secret: that she is a major otaku who is a fan of anime and manga, which greatly distresses her. Haruka starts avoiding Yuto at all costs which causes others around them to blame Yuto for doing something bad to her. Eventually, Yuto finds Haruka on the school roof where he explains that he will not tell anyone about her secret hobbies if she does not want anyone else to know, cause she afraid it would ruin her reputation. This makes Haruka very relieved and happy that if anyone had to find it that it would be Yuto.

From wikia.com:

Because of his friend Asakura Nobunaga's nagging, Ayase Yuuto proceeds on watching a magical girl anime called "Dojikko Aki-chan (Clumsy Aki-chan)" that night despite admitting that it does not interest him. Downstairs, his sister Ruko and homeroom teacher Kamishiro Yukari are indulging themselves to alcohol even though it's 3 in the morning. As he remarks on how a person has the ability to watch anime on such hours of the day, a girl is seen with a smile on her face as Aki-chan's face flashes on the TV screen.

The following morning, Yuuto is preparing breakfast, while Ruko and Yukari are left sleeping from their drinking party. The two manage to wake up in time for breakfast, but they both participated in tormenting Yuuto in their own way.

Later on, in Hakujou Academy, Yuuto encounters classmates Nagai, Takenami and Ogawa, who remark on his opinion on women. This was suddenly interrupted by the sound of someone playing the piano; more specifically, it was fellow classmate Nogizaka Haruka behind the piano, admired by many of the students for her expertise.

Yuuto soon reached his classroom and there, he had a chance of seeing Haruka mingling with her friends, when Nobunaga interrupted him, the topic shifting to yesterday's episode of Dojikko Aki-chan and his anime-related interests. The topic about an anime magazine called Innocent Smile inside the school library seemed to arouse Haruka's interest, which ends up startling her friends.

At the end of the day's class, Yuuto is asked by Nobunaga to return the book he borrowed from the library (which is the Dojikko Aki-chan issue of Innocent Smile). He receives a warning from the librarian in the place of the borrower and heads off immediately. On his way out, he notices a girl sneaking inside with her face covered by her school bag. He instantly recognizes it as Nogizaka Haruka, who borrows a copy of Innocent Smile. As she leaves though, she bumps Yuuto, whom she then asks about what she just did. She also tried sneaking out from him, but she ends up losing balance. Yuuto manages to get hold of the book she borrowed, much to the remorse of Haruka. She leaves the library in tears.

The following days, Haruka seems to avoid Yuuto. He notices this and begins to wonder himself why.

He tries to talk to her personally, but her tendency to run away from him only worsens his image, especially to those who admire Haruka. He manages to reach Haruka on the rooftop, There, he admits that he will not expose her hobby to anyone and reassures her feelings about having such a hobby.

That night, he receives a call from Haruka, who admits she forgot to return the Innocent Smile magazine she borrowed. She remembers that people with overdue books have their names announced all over the school and her image will be tarnished when it happens. Yuuto and Haruka meet at the school, sneaking in so that they can return the book before it is overdue.

Inside, Haruka exposes her tendency to be airheaded and clumsy, much to Yuuto's relief, as he describes Haruka as a "weird ojou-sama".

They managed to complete the requirements in returning the magazine safely when the sound of a cat's purring echoed throughout the library. Haruka suspected it as a ghost cat that has been haunting the school as a ghost story; Yuuto decides to investigate however. Luckily for them, it was their teacher Yukari's phone, whose ringtone is a cat purring.

Outside the school, Haruka extends her thanks for Yuuto's help and allows him to call her by her first name. Yuuto also returns the favor by allowing her to call him in his.

Adaptation
This episode of Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu is adapted from the first volume of the Light Novels.

Characters
* Ayase Yuuto - a student from Hakujou Academy. He "gives up on girls" due to being treated by girls like a servant at home. He meets Nogizaka Haruka in her attempts to maintain her unusual hobby and becomes friends with her.
* Nogizaka Haruka - one of the most-admired students of Hakujou Academy. She excels in many aspects, but is in fact afraid of people who will ridicule her for her hobby related to anime. She finds refuge on Ayase Yuuto, who respects her hobby.
* Asakura Nobunaga - Yuuto's friend and classmate and an avid otaku.

Cultural references
The term Akiba-kei (also called as Akiba-chan) is a Japanese slang term whose meaning is similar to otaku. It originally means "Akihabara-style", where Akihabara is an area in Tokyo where the electronics industry, and later the industries of anime, manga and gaming flourish with marketplaces dotting the area.
