[Daniel and his father enter the Neighborhood Library (where a blue owl is at the front desk), when a younger blue owl runs up to them]
O THE OWL: Hoo-hoo, hello!
DANIEL TIGER: Hi, O!
DAD TIGER: Hello there, O the Owl.
O THE OWL: Hello.
[the owl waves to the camera]
O THE OWL: Hello, neighbor.
DANIEL TIGER: I'm excited for story time!
O THE OWL: Shh! You have to be quiet in the library.
DANIEL TIGER: Oh!
[he turns to the camera]
DANIEL TIGER: [whispers] I'm excited for story time.
[the owl takes his hand]
O THE OWL: Me too. Let's go ask Uncle X what story we're reading. He's the librarian.
[they walk up to the librarian, who takes the books that Daniel was carrying]
X THE OWL: How in the world are ya? You're just in time for story time.
DAD TIGER: Okay, my fuzzy little guy. I'm gonna find myself a book to read ...
[he rubs Daniel's head, making him giggle]
DAD TIGER: While you're at story time.
DANIEL TIGER: Okay, Dad.
[he leaves]
O THE OWL: Uncle X, which story are we going to read?
X THE OWL: Well, let's see what stories I picked out just for you, hoo-hoo!
[he turns to Daniel]
X THE OWL: Hmm, do you wanna hear a story about ... princesses?
[the younger owl takes a book off a pile on the desk]
O THE OWL: There's a book for that!
X THE OWL: Or a story about ... outer space?
[the young owl takes another book off the desk]
O THE OWL: There's a book for that!
X THE OWL: Or a story about superheroes?
[the young owl takes another book off the desk]
O THE OWL: There's a book for that!
DANIEL TIGER: I wanna hear ... all of those stories!
[he turns to the camera]
DANIEL TIGER: Don't you? Hey, do you wanna make believe with me? Let's make believe ... that we can meet all the people from the books!
[he closes his eyes, then the princess book opens by itself, and he "jumps" into the page (where he ends up standing next to a princess in a castle) and begins to sing]
DANIEL TIGER: Open up a book and take a peek!
[a small pink dragon flies up to them, so the princess pets it (and it turns blue)]
PRINCESS: I saved my kingdom from a silly beast!
[the page turns, then they're transported to a city where a Superman-esque hero is flying around]
SUPERHERO: I get into super adventures, as I fly around the city streets!
[the page turns, then they're all transported into outer space, where an astronaut in a rocket ship is floating by]
ASTRONAUT: I'm floating in outer space! You can read all about it, just open the page!
[they all fly towards the camera]
ALL: You never know who you'll meet, when you open up a book and take a peek!
[Daniel then "jumps" out of the book and winds up back in the library]
DANIEL TIGER: Wasn't that grr-ific?
X THE OWL: Hoo-hoo! I have the perfect book for story time.
[he chuckles]
X THE OWL: Let's go read it.
[he walks off camera]
O THE OWL: [whispers] Hoo-hoo, let's go!
DANIEL TIGER: Grr--
[he covers his mouth]
DANIEL TIGER: [whispers] I mean, grr-ific.
[the librarian takes a seat, as the two kids sit in front of him]
X THE OWL: Today's story is ...
[he lets the anticipation build, then holds up the cover for them to see (showing a tiger wearing a pith helmet as he rides a pink elephant)]
X THE OWL: "Tigey the Adventure Tiger Saves the Day!"
[Daniel turns to the camera]
DANIEL TIGER: Ooh! A new "Tigey the Adventure Tiger" book! I'm so excited!
[King Friday and his son (who's pretending to be a frog) enter the library]
PRINCE WEDNESDAY: Ribbit! Don't start the story without me! Ribbit! Ribbit!
DANIEL TIGER: [whispers] Prince Wednesday! Over here!
[the prince (without lowering his voice) starts laughing and hops over to the other two kids]
PRINCE WEDNESDAY: Ribbit! Ribbit! Ribbit! Ribbit! Ribbit!
X THE OWL: Nifty-galifty ... Let's begin.
[he opens the book up (so the kids can see the pictures) and starts reading]
X THE OWL: "Once upon a time ..."
[the younger owl turns to Daniel]
O THE OWL: [whispers] I love that part.
DANIEL TIGER: [whispers] Me too.
X THE OWL: "Tigey the Adventure Tiger was exploring the jungle."
[the prince suddenly hops in front of the other two kids]
PRINCE WEDNESDAY: Ribbit! Ribbit! Ribbit!
[Daniel puts a finger to his lips and shushes him]
DANIEL TIGER: [whispers] Shh! Prince Wednesday, I wanna hear the story.
[still smiling, the prince hops off camera, as the librarian continues the story]
X THE OWL: "All of a sudden, Tigey heard a strange sound ... "
[the prince hops back in their way]
PRINCE WEDNESDAY: Ribbit! Ribbit! Ribbit! Ribbit!
[Daniel gets an angry look on his face (but continues whispering)]
DANIEL TIGER: [whispers] Grr! I can't hear the story, Prince Wednesday!
[the prince (still smiling) again hops off camera, as the librarian turns the page]
X THE OWL: "It was the sound of an elephant who needed help! Tigey had to save him!"
[the prince hops back in their way once again]
PRINCE WEDNESDAY: Hop-hop-hoppy frog!
DANIEL TIGER: [whispers] Prince Wednesday! Shh!
O THE OWL: [whispers] Quiet in the library, please.
PRINCE WEDNESDAY: [whispers] Hop!
[he hops next to the two kids, as the librarian sighs and closes the book]
X THE OWL: Is there a problem?
[the prince (apparently oblivious to how his actions are affecting his friends) hops again]
PRINCE WEDNESDAY: [whispers] Hop!
DANIEL TIGER: I want to listen to the story, but Prince Wednesday's still being silly!
[the prince merely laughs]
PRINCE WEDNESDAY: But I am a silly frog today!
[he hops again]
PRINCE WEDNESDAY: Ribbit!
[the librarian puts the book down]
X THE OWL: Well, there are times to be silly, and times to be calm. Story time is a time to be quiet and calm.
[the prince finally seems to understand, as he frowns and gets up out of his "hopping" position]
PRINCE WEDNESDAY: But ... then when is it time to be silly?
X THE OWL: After the story, we'll go outside, and that's a time you can be silly.
PRINCE WEDNESDAY: But ... but I feel silly now.
[the librarian chuckles]
X THE OWL: Well, I know a way to help your body get calm.
[he puts his arms around himself, then starts singing]
X THE OWL: Give a squeeze, nice and slow. Take a deep breath ...
[he inhales deeply]
X THE OWL: And let it go.
[he exhales]
PRINCE WEDNESDAY: Okay.
[he turns to Daniel]
PRINCE WEDNESDAY: W-Will you do it with me?
DANIEL TIGER: Okay.
[he turns to the camera]
DANIEL TIGER: You do it too.
[they both start to sing]
ALL: Give a squeeze, nice and slow. Take a deep breath ... And let it go.
X THE OWL: How do you feel now?
PRINCE WEDNESDAY: Wow, I feel calmer now. I can listen to the story.
X THE OWL: Good.
[he sits back down and picks up the book]
X THE OWL: Hoo-hoo! Now, let's see what happens to Tigey the Adventure Tiger.
[he starts to read again]
X THE OWL: "Tigey found the elephant. He was tangled up!"
[he turns the page, as the kids gasp]
X THE OWL: "But Tigey the Adventure Tiger was brave and strong."
[he turns the page]
X THE OWL: "He untangled the elephant."
PRINCE WEDNESDAY: [whispers] Yeah!
[Daniel laughs, as the librarian turns the page]
X THE OWL: "And took him back to his mama."
[he closes the book, as all of the kids say "The end!"]
DANIEL TIGER: I love that part.
O THE OWL: Me too.
PRINCE WEDNESDAY: Me too.
X THE OWL: Hoo-hoo! Nifty-galifty! Now, let's go make up our own adventure stories outside!
[the younger owl jumps up and yells]
O THE OWL: Hurray!
[he covers his mouth in embarrassment]
O THE OWL: Oh, oops ...
[he looks at the other kids]
O THE OWL: [whispers] Hurray ... Quiet in the library.
[they all head for the door]
DANIEL TIGER: I really liked that story.
[cut to the kids and the librarian outside of the library]
O THE OWL: Hoo-hoo, now what?
PRINCE WEDNESDAY: Silly time! Ribbit!
[he turns to the librarian]
PRINCE WEDNESDAY: Right?
[the librarian laughs]
X THE OWL: That's right! We can be silly, and make up our own story! Now, once upon a time ...
[Daniel starts running around]
DANIEL TIGER: I'm Tigey the Adventure Tiger! And I'm brave and strong!
[the prince gets back down into his "hopping" position]
PRINCE WEDNESDAY: And I'm a silly frog! Ribbit! Ribbit! Silly, silly, hop-hop-hop!
DANIEL TIGER: One day, Tigey the Adventure Tiger--
PRINCE WEDNESDAY: And the silly hoppy dancing frog!
DANIEL TIGER: Went to visit their friend, the ...
[they both look at the younger owl]
O THE OWL: The, the ... um--
[he seems hesitant, then looks at the camera]
O THE OWL: Monkey!
[he starts jumping around and making "ooh ooh ah ah" noises]
DANIEL TIGER: Tigey the Adventure Tiger, the silly frog, and the monkey went on a silly adventure ... together!
[they all laugh, then say "The end!"]
O THE OWL: I love that part.
DANIEL TIGER: Me too!
PRINCE WEDNESDAY: Me too!

The Neighborhood of Make-Believe is the fictional kingdom inhabited by hand puppet characters on the children's television series Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, produced 1968–2001, and its predecessor Misterogers, which ran from 1963–1966 for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Principal puppeteer Fred Rogers developed many of the puppet characters in the 1950s for Josie Carey's program, The Children's Corner. It was filmed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

X the Owl (performed by Fred Rogers) - X the Owl lives in an old oak tree in the Neighborhood. He is eager and cheerful and has a strong desire to learn new things. Many of X's stories involve assignments from the Owl Correspondence School and he idolizes Benjamin Franklin. He also has trouble making decisions. X was the third puppet to appear on Children's Corner.
In the animated series Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, X has a nephew named O the Owl. X's feathers are still the same darker shade of blue as they were in Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. He wears a green bowtie and brown loafers. He works at the neighborhood library. X's catchphrases are "How in the world are you?" and "Nifty galifty!" He is voiced by Tony Daniels.
